Got a 06 plate Leon FR tdi and had the dpf light come around 4 times. Recently gave it a nice 20 mins drive on motorway and it has gone not sure if light will come back on. Exhaust gases are a bit smelly too.

Regarding Leon DPFs, there is an upgrade to the ECU firmware from VAG that will apparently heat the DPF up quicker and clear it quicker. Not sure what years have it/don't have it.

I happened to find this out from a VAG independent. I then asked the Seat dealer to do it while it was in for a service (VAG indie said they couldn't do it). The dealer didn't offer it, e.g. by saying "BTW there's an update available", had to ask them to check.

Seems to work, if DPF light is on it will clear quicker than before and under lesser conditions. Used to have to be a constant motorway run to do it but it'll do it on A roads and shorter runs now.

Edit: Just to add my car's an 2007 2.0 TDI FR

DPF Problems.

Sorted Finally. Had Warning light on/off some 70+ times between servicing at 50k miles.Just about to have major removal of DPF at cost between £500-£600. Changed from basic Diesel to BP Ultimate Diesel or Shell Diesel Vpower. Yes you pay a little bit more but supposedly claim is you get better mpg. Nearly 2 months since change and all ok now... :D

I had injector recall, done with my 30K service, then similaly I started having warning light problems. They put a sticket in windscreen which suggested running at 3K revs for 10 mins or so which I did in 4th gear. This cleared it a number of times. But since my last message I have had a recurrence twice, managed to clear both times. Am still using Shell v Power Diesel. Had the engine light on with the DPF warning symbol, but never the coil or limp mode!!... thats sounds bad. Good luck at the seat garage.!!. The forum has been very useful to try understand .. we're not alone. !!

Hi i owned one of thses a couple years ago and i had problems with my DPF filter. I purchased from dealers and after owning for a week the light appeared on the dashboard., I only travel 20 miles round journey to work and back and they told me i need to do longer journeys which i felt was ridiculous as i wasnt told when i purchased car. I heav heard there are people out there who can remove for as little as £300 in Birmingham. I believe the dealers say they need to do a degeneration on it or something similar to clear it. Cant remember proper term sorry, But they used a quarter a tank of fuel for me which was nice in the process of clearing.

well car when back to western seat edinburgh.. want £325 to re set dpf...cannot guarantee it will work if it does not work £1850 to replace dpf + £325 for first try.
problem only started after recall and a major service at seat....worst customer service of any company . now having to pay £500 to rip the thing out .
seat told me not to buy a diesel if im only doing short trips..
its a shame as it was a nice car now think will fix and sell !![:@]

I have a Seat Leon 170 TDI FR that has a brand new DPF fitted

However, the soot level in the filter will not go below 20%, at least that is what the ECU is saying. Two garages (Seat and VAG indie) it has now been to have reported that the soot level will drop to 20% on regen cycle but then quickly gets back up to 50% (as engine cools down?). It refuses to drop below 20%

The original DPF had become too clogged so it was change or delete time. Went with change as I'd like to sell the car soon. It's had a new DPF and new pressure and exhaust sensor (post DPF one). No coil light or MIL light now but DPF light will not go out.

It could be a sensor fault somewhere. The ECU relies on the pressure sensor, which senses difference before and after DPF, the temp sensors before and after the DPF and the air mass meter to calculate the soot load. So there is a chance that a defective sensor somewhere could screw up the calculation.

Anyone any ideas?

I'm a bit stuck as the VAG specialist fitted DPF but couldn't fix issue completely because they suspect an ECU fault. Seat have had one look and are trying to wash their hands of it blaming DPF fitting.

44k miles and after one of the probably heaviest bits of driving the car has ever got the light came on! Found it really weird it came on after heavy driving:s
My blutooth obd adapter isnt working so hopefully it will go away again

Ive had problems quite often with my DPF and managed to get the light out by doing the extra miles run out in it ! Then once went into limp mode and we took it to seat and they put a new sensor on it and charged us £150 for it :( it stopped the light coming on for a while but eventually came on again so I decided to start running V power Diesel in it which kept the light off for sometime but as my seat has done around 110000 it is due to be replaced. This weekend the light came on but while we were trying to clear it the car went into limp mode so im thinking the time has now come to remove and remap. This is the most troublesome car ive ever owned and ive had cars with a lot more miles than this on, my other car is an e60 525d and its done 186K but DPF has been changed before I bought it but I can drive it as I want and short or long journeys but ive never seen the DPF light !! Hoping removing the seat`s DPF is the right thing to do !! Anyone had it done with out any problems ?? Any tips on getting it done ? i.e getting a new down pipe without the DPF on or getting the DPF gutted out and where is the best place in Cleveland N/E ?? Thanks.

Can't complain at that mileage. Mine only ever does long journeys and the DPF eventually went.
