Hi guys,
I joined this forum ages ago when I had my first problem with the leon...now I'm on my second ! not bad really...

Problem is that the Key turns in the lock but doesn't activate the central locking or pull the knob up or down. It seems like there's no resistance when turning anti clockwise and no signs of any movements on the door lock knob inside. (The remote fob hasn't worked for years)

I'm assuming there's a control arm that's come detached but I'm sure it won't be that simple and it'll be a whole unit that I need to scavange from somewhere.

My real question tho is, before I embark on removing the door panel..do I really have to disconnect the window and umpteen other things to get to the lock mechanism ? seems like it from some online guides I've looked at.

Mines not a Cupra...just a 1.8 and has the window controls built into the door panel itself unlike the guide I've seen for the cupra...

TIA
Ant.

thanks mate, I'll take a look today...luckily it's not worth stealing !

Hi, this is my first post on the forum... Weirdly enough I joined to ask a very similar question, so instead of starting a fresh thread I thought I'd join in with this one. Hopefully Cookan doesn't mind! :)

I also have a mk1 Leon (non-Cupra) and my drivers door has just stopped working (and neither does the remote fob). The only difference with mine is when you turn the key in the door you can hear the central locking mechanism, but the drivers door remains locked. I can enter through the passenger side but even then I can't open the drivers door from the inside either. Could this be the micro-switch? I did actually manage to get the door open this morning just by chance, so it looks like it's an intermittent problem.

Hey guys.
Cookan, i agree with sockpuppet on your issues, steps 17 to 19 on that guide will remove the lock barrel and like he says i would imagine something has snapped on the back of it or it's the mech as well.

Roadfool, welcome to the forum. i'm pretty sure yours is related to either the microswitch or the drivers lock mech itself, this involves removing the door panel as in the guide above. It's not too bad a job tbh, it looks more work than it is. If you or someone else has vagcom/vcds then the central locking throws up fault codes, so get it scanned first if you can.
The only other thing is do you have any other problems with any other electrical things that are mounted in the drivers door, for instance, a crackily speaker or door light not working etc etc? The reason i ask is because sometimes the fault lies in the wiring loom where it passes from the car itself into the drivers door. When the door is open, you'll be able to see the rubber "accordian" looking thing, the wires pass through that.

Thanks guys,

I've actually just fixed it... The lock mechanism was fouling on a spring, and the spring can be removed as it is only used to fit the mechanism during manufacture. I followed a YouTube video and removed the spring = Job done. Apparently it's quite a common issue with the mk4 Golf, Leon and Octavia etc.

I'll link the video later if anyone wants it :)

did a bit more than I needed to before finding that yup, the lock barrel isn't turning the spade thingy....whilst I put the whole door back together....anyone able to say whether it's worth me dismantling the lock barrel mechanism or whether it's a trip to the scrappy...and any ideas if any other model might fit ?

thanks,
Ant.

Hi ant. I'm not sure on the barrel tbh mate i've never dismantled one, you could try taking it apart i guess. Nothing to really lose, it might be something obvious. If you go to the scrappy then obviously you'll end up with a different key for that lock and the ignition, which might be a PITA.

I would imagine that the lock is the same on the golf (and possibly the skoda and audi too) from the pics in that guide, but i'm by no means sure. I guess you can take the old barrel to the scrappy for comparison, if needed.

oh my god ! this is a good good day !

just taken the barrel apart and found a little bit bust...and found a Seat Leon Door Lock Barrel repair kit for 4 quid including postage that replaces the little plastic ring !

happy days ;-)
