Drivers Side Rear Door Wont Open

Hey,

The drivers side rear door cant be opened from the outside on my Leon FR TDI. You can open it from the inside by pulling the handle twice. Is there a prob with the central locking on that door alone?
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Martyn

Not being able to get in from outside and having to pull twice from inside sounds like the locks are engaging. When the door is locked, pulling once from inside unlocks it, then again opens the door.

I'd look at the door lock mechanism and make sure everything is ok. I'd also look at it quite quickly, there's far too many people on here who have had doors completely inoperable, and it sounds like a horrific job! If yours stops opening from the inside then you're stuffed!

how the hell do i open my rear drivers side door as i cant open it from inside or outside, feels like its came of the latch but how do you get in to the door its self if you cant open from any side?

Try hitting the handle on the outside worked for mine and been fine since.
Might be different as yours wont open from inside either.
Worth a try.

Ive tried hitting the handle but no joy. Sometimes it will open and sometimes it wont.
Is it the central locking motor or an electrical fault?

Thanks, Martyn

You got door pins? do they go up on the door on unlock?

Sounds like the door lock/mechanism is faulty.

I'll check tomorrow. I bought the car on sunday so Im hoping the garage's 3 month waranty will sort it.
Thanks for the help...I'll keep you posted

Thanks, Martyn

well if it helps ive given up on trying everything on this forum to unlock it so ive booked the car in to the seat garage in leicester as my car has been in there one to two times a week getting everything changed on it, and the lock/catch costing me £256.78 for the labour/parts (including vat) taking 2 and a half hours to 4 hours, cant wait for this car to go now as ive spent £800 on service and parts in the last 2 weeks :(

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Piece of piss to sort!

Mine did this last week and this is how you can sort it!

1) Pop the plastic cover from the inside handle and unscrew the screws and unhook the door handle
2) pull trim thats below the speaker and then pull the longer length of trim attached
3) Push seat fully back and undo the 2 torx screw in the bottom of the door
4) Now grab the door card from the bottom near the speak and work towards the column(lock side), this should pop off.
5) Give it a tug until the panel can left up.....yes there is sweet fa space but stick with it.....now you need to get the cover off from the side mirror, you might break 1 clip on this but hey it happens.
6) Once thats out now you move the card around until you can get enough space to get the unit free may take a while but relax and slowly wiggle it just a little bit, detach the cables for the light in door and pop it out along with the window switch.......reattach the window switch as you will need this again.
7) Now you should have the card out of the way and the metal section will be visible.
8) Lower the window so the carrier bolts are visible and duct tape front to back through the back window........unscrew the bolts just so that the holder seperates and not to the point where it falls apart! might need to buy some new clips 1 of mine are screwed but superglue is my friend for the moment.
9) Unscrew the bolts holding the metal skin in place
10) Pull all of the wires off from this panel
11) Remove the plastic caps from the door mech unit
12) Now loosen the unit by freeing the unit seal a couple of pulls might help, once this is down left the unit from the bottom, push up and pull towards you........this yet again is a pain so slowly move it once the bottom is from pull the unit down and pull the window mech free.
13) once that is out of the way you will now see the door mech and this is where you have a couple of choices!

a) drill a hole where the securing screw is but this will be visible when the door is opened
b) cut a chunk out of the inner frame that wont be visible i did 5x2 cm section but if you get it right you could probably get away with a 1x1cm section
c) a thin long screw driver or a nokia cover remover which is a metal bar with a small point end, push this through the gap below the nylon clip that will be visible and push hard up.....this is the unit........nylon clip & screw at top is what im on about

I did a combo of b & c once i popped the lock the door opened.

The connector and motor is bugger on mine so i brought a brand new unit off ebay for £48 just waiting for it to arrive at the mo or go stealer for £120

Took 2 hours as i was faffing but on a good day could probably take 30-45 mins once you know how to do it.

Thank you so much for putting this online! However I spent 5hours in the car over saturday and sunday morning trying to just do point 13  - The rest was difficult but with a little patience I managed to do it quite quickly but I cannot for the life of me work out how to do 13) using either a, b, or c... I have not tried a or b as didn't know where to drill or cut - have no idea and so I tried c for hours! If I pulled on the handle cable I could see a metal arm pushing up against a nylon/plastic part of the lock so I assumed this was the plastic part you were reffering to (the white plastic part connected to the gold metal part with torx screw in the middle is what I pushed up very hard)...
If this is not the part you where talking about - what part is it - can it be seen in the first picture you linked? I don't really understand how this lock unlocks so maybe if you could explain that that might help me figure this out...
One random thing I found is that you can remove one of the two 8mm triple square bolts that secure this lock in place place by opening the rear door and looking through the gap in the door between door and frame at the hinge. But without access to other bolt this is a little pointless...Anyway PLEASE HELP :help: if you can any and all advice welcome. Thank you so much for your time.

Intresting.......i will have to get some pics up for this on the area in question me thinks, just need a dry day as i need to sort my seal!

Yes it is the annoying white clip thats the issue but yours sounds abit worse, can you put pressure on the door from the inside and try to push the plastic clip......p.s dont hurt you self or go through the glas!!

have you got a new unit because the alternative is cut a chunk out and unscrew the gold hex bolt. i brought mine off ebay for like £40 or so brand new.

basically where you see the arm push against the plastic clip you need to either drill a big hole through to the left of where the arm is pushing against or cut a big section out.
