It was more the safety aspect than legality I was on about though, although the two are somewhat co-joined.

Fair enough Al, but they are safe if you abide by certain protocols, the right torqued bolts etc
They are merc so you are correct 5x112, and leon is 5x100, if it 5x110 (if memory serves me right is Vauxhall and some fords) he could of just used some Wobble bolts and spigot rings

I know its boring but I'm a very practically minded person, but was wondering if you'd thought this through.
When I was using adaptors I found these very difficult to get off by myself.
I know you do a lot of driving to and from you work places.
What's you back up plan if you get a puncture?
Are you going to carry all the tooling and a spare wheel to allow a road side change out?
What's your insurance saying about these? On my 106 GTI all I had to say was that I had non standard wheels, is it still the same or do you have to tell them exactly what and how you have the wheels fitted?
Does your insurance cover the cost of the wheels?
Fair play to you doing this, as I said on eastsidevw, I think its going to be difficult to mode the LCR heavily and still keep it looking good.

I have some mercedes wheels too hence the question...I am sure it will be "safe", but is it as safe as the same car without the aftermarket adapters to fit wheels of incorrect PCD, shorter wheel bolts due to inability to screw them all the way in to the hub because of the adapters, hugely incorrect wheel offset/use of huge spacers and tyres that are too small for the rims, all sat on slammed suspension?
Sorry Derek for taking it off topic. Out of interest, is this going to remain a daily driver, and will you be going down the remap, intake, intercooler, uprated FPR etc route?

there are 2 types of 5x112
Audi = 5x112 with 57.1mm centrebore (and 14x1.5 bolt holes)
and
Merc = 5x112 with *66.6mm* centrebore (and 12x1.5 bolt holes)
*please double check this, I am quite sure, but not 100%
so you are better off looking for the right adapters mate, you could buy the Audi ones, but you will need a 57.1>66.6 spigot rings, and the right bolts to fit to the adapter
The bolt going through the hub is dependant on the adapter size, when I ran 20mm adapters on my D90's, and I used normal sized bolts all the way through, so I will disagree with you there.
But I do agree with you on safety, I try and limit use of adapters, as I had a bad experience, due to the last owner threading the hole, but they were crap adapters, and I will be running adapters on my new wheels, but I have splashed out more, for studded adapters, and they have a lifetime warranty (from USA).
If you look, alot of people do certain mods to try and compromise their "big drops" by having stuff like engine spacers, this will not only stop you killing your sump, but will give back better wishbone angles.
Tbh that is your opinion, and you are entitled to it, like I don't see the point people putting all these power mods, straining their engine etc, but I don't voice my opinion on it

phew.....some pretty epic views and stuff. Which is good folk are talking! see if i can reply to a few posts now.
The center bore of the wheels is bigger than the car, i might get spacers at some point if it bothers me but atm it just makes the wheels a pain to get the spacers,wheel and hub all lined up.
As far as the wheels sticking out being legal and so on, i CBA getting into that as there is so many threads apon threads about it, if i get pulled over and the copper dont like them and starts quoting me acts and so on then...**** happens. But from personal experience never had any problem stretch as i always try and get folk who know what theyr doing to fit the tyres, and my mate who runs stretch on his glanza was stopped by the police and told to get more stretch on his tyres....

I am having to use diffrent tools to fit the wheels as the normal brace aint long enough...so plan is i am buying all the correct tools (decent brand not the halfords ones i have just now) wrapping the outside of them in blue detailing tape to protect the wheels from bashes and knocks off the tools. Plan is to modify the storage box that sits in the spare wheel to house all the tools i would need if i ever did need roadside wheel change. Iv got AA cover too,lol
I dont intend to run the wheels all the times as i will no dout kerb them, but i will find out if theyr fine when i do my 1st long run, real 1st time mods take few mistakes and learning so i dont expect it to go simply where is the fun in that.
I will be doing mods as i fancy them so i might do engine for a bit, interior so on. I plan on getting FMIC, stage 2, heatsheild for K&N. ARBs will also be done once i learn some more about them and what to get. Been advised to get my coilover set up with less rebound to decrease chance of scrubbing wheels all the time
