Sponge packing

Hey pr0xy, are you sure the rattle is from the gearbox/clutch. I too have a new Cupra and noticed a rattle. But I had a look under the dashboard (looking up from the foot well to where the tops of the pedals are) and saw a plastic bracket rubbing on the bodywork. I adjusted it and the rattle disappeared. It's back again so the bracket must have moved back. I've got some high density sponge to pack it out permanently this time so we'll see what happens. I'll try and do it tomorrow (Sunday) and take some pics.

Anyone else noticed sponge wrapped in clear plastic stuffed into various places in the engine bay. Obviously, they're there to dampen out noises. Or are they?

Dose it sound like it's coming from the left? If anyone has been to Sheffield you will know the roads are a joke ive got like a metal rattle comming from the left might have to get it looked at pretty soon

Have to day mine rattles like a **** house door in the wind in general, :D
It rattles from the dash, from the door pillar on the passenger side, from the boot area and finally the gear box and clutch. Plus various creaks from the door cards and door rubbers. Think the quality of build is generally poor, yep I know it is a hot hatch and you do loose creature comforts but never had one as creaky and squeaky as this car.:blink::confused:

Hmmm!

Ok just one more post to make 15.

I secured the above mentioned bracket but it didn't cure the problem. It's deffo a dashboard rattle and only a small one that isn't there all the time. Suppose I can live with it.
I'll post a pic anyway it might help somebody.

Fix pics

This bracket is on the back of the carrier, housing some relays above the fuse carrier. These are found below the headlight switch, behind the handy little shelf/hole in the bottom of the dash. Pics are taken from footwell looking up from the pedals.

Unfixed bracket

It's a bit tight for space with a few sharp edges

And this one is one of the anti-rattle spongy bits in the engine bay

Today I checked the noises again and i noticed that it only happens it low speeds when i'm driving in bumpy roads cause I tested same speeds more than 3 times on " good " roads and didn't hear em

Still not sure were they're coming from

Fixed :)

Got rid of my rattle today.

This container, with the sponge in it, has some pipes entering in the top which are fixed with a small bracket. This bracket was not clipped onto the container. I just clipped it on and now the rattle/buzz has disappeared.
It was making the noise at 3000 rev/min to 3250 rev/min when the engine was under load. Now there's nothing except for the "Bwwwaaaarrrrp" of the engine (well...noise generator!)
