All is good guys, any comment regarding the box is helpful (even though I spent yesterday reading through every post in this thread).

If any of you do have any information on long term use though, that'd be helpful as this thread was started in 2013, so some of you must know some details, if you're still about since then :)

Edit:

I was thinking more wearing parts down faster, so not something that could pop up in the near future but over a longer period of time, just sooner than it otherwise would have been without the box.

But yes, I think I'll be buying the box in the very near future :)

Thanks for your help Garry (and others) :)

Good point, I need to call them to discuss insurance and get some advise on how to "sell it" to my insurance company, so I'll ask them for details on long term use at the same time.

To be fair fella speaking to someone who sells the box they are not going to tell you they will knacker your clutch in 10k miles even if they knew it would. They are only ever going to talk them up and say no long term effect and rightly so. It's their business and ultimately they will only want to sell you one. Please note I have no evidence either way and I am sure they are probably fine.

You can't really know about the long term affects because they haven't been out long enough. I mean the CRD3 box has only just come out and the one before that CRDT+ (Trevor) which is the one I got has been out since around end of 2013. I've had Trevor on my car since October 2014 and haven't had any issues regarding parts.

This is why I came here asking for details instead of asking DTUK.

The earlier models (before Trevor) can still be a good indication though as they all alter the same part of the engine to increase performance, although later versions do do other things that the earlier models don't. Thanks for your comment though, knowing you've had yours since October 2014 and have had no issues is a good sign in my book, as that's a year and a half almost. How do you drive the car usually?

CRD3+ i believe has a more controlled delivery of the power and torque lower down the rev range but as Garry H has found out it can still be driven hard.
Trevor didnt have this control due to not being connected to camshaft sensor, So the power delivery was, lets say, A bit more urgent lower down.
I ran trevor on a 2013 manual 184 for over 20k miles without any issues, And i drove it hard. I now have a 2015 184 which i transferred trevor over to and since then upgraded him to CRD3+. 10K miles in and all is fine and i still drive it hard and still puts a smile on my face every day.

Well that's a difficult question haha

Day to day I don't rag it but I'm not the slowest driver either and especially seeing as I live close to Milton Keynes, and having to go through MK wears your tyres any way because of all the roundabouts. So the clutch probably gets most use when speeding up to 70, slowing down for a roundabout and speeding up to 70 again.

Mine is the 184 with the box and I can honestly say that it never needs to be ragged. There's enough power for it to just glide with out feeling strained

I totally agree with you on that statement about the grunt it has. When i say drive hard i dont mean i rag it to the red and back, What i do mean is that i accelerate to road speed as quick as i can most times. My better half doesnt like this at all so i usually reserve it for solo trips to work and the like. Car still returns high 40s to low 50s mpg on my 15 mile work journey and high 50s to low 60s on longer runs.

Yeah I'm the same. I get to the right speed as quickly as possible. My missus don't mind though lol

Just to chuck a spanner in the DTUK fan club....
I had a 'Trevor' but changed to a box from TDI Tuning.
No juddering anywhere (which is as it should be) and really smooth power.
They don't bother with forums so most people hear about DTUK first and stick with them. I didn't and I'm very happy with my set up. Give them a ring why not?
As far as engine wear is concerned id say it's no different to a standard engine... As in rant it everywhere and it will wear faster than if you drive like a granny.
Be sensible and you'll be ok which ever box you choose.

Didnt realise it was the DTUK fan club to be honest

Just a load of people having a chat and giving advice to other forum members who ask for opinion.

I looked at TDI as well but there were a few things that put me off.

1/ Quality and tech of the product.

2/The fact that i had to pay extra for a blanking plug.

3/Push button program and fine tune settings on the DTUK.

4/ £109 to change it from my exsisting car to my potential next car ( only £75 with DTUK )

5/ Lack of dyno proof of figures from TDI.

Thats about it really
