if you get egt's >1000'C then you may suffer exhaust housing distortions, wastegate cracking etc. if post turbine measurement it can be 100-150'C higher pre-turbine remember.
my IHI used to run 1100'C it turns out, and on IHI >900'C and you are toast in the housing dept. they're not good at high temps like some other makes. My hybrid mitsi/garrett has been >900'C in race duty, no housing problems. Usually running 850'C to 900'C with minimal off throttle spikes to >900'C
That and the wideband gauge are two I always make reference too.. health check.
