Engine Bay Cleaning

What do people recommend on how to clean a TDi engine bay? I've got HID's and ballasts floating around, so I'm not sure if a steam clean is the answer. Any other ideas?

do not steam clean the engine, take the time to wash it slowly by hand using a damp cloth.

Thanks - I've bought some heavy duty degreaser (WD40) and put that on, and washed it off with a bit of water, but the results weren't satisfactory.
What would you use, car shampoo or something stronger?

I would of though a degreasing agent if you have oil and grease everywhere, however a search in the detailing section may help.

Your car doesn't look to be that old so I would of though normal bodywork washing products would clean the dirt from your engine bay.
