Engine cut out...Update

All,

The other day, I was driving and dropped into 2nd with clutch down as I was approaching the lights, as I did - I looked to see my battery symbol on and engine had just cut out. There is NO chance I had stalled it...so what could it be?

Car runs fine, it's done this about 3 times now (first time in 3 months though) and injectors have been replaced.

battery symbol doesnt tend to come up unless thre is a fault with the alterantor. but i wouldnt imagine one going up teh creek so soon, if its an 07 plate.

get it checked though.

mine cut out the night i had injectors done but never done it since there is nothing to check tonto well at least with mine it went on 3 computers and no codes

Doubt it will be an injector - only done about 4k since they were fitted.

This happened to my wife - twice. The first time the RAC came out and the guy hit something underneath - he wouldnt tell me what, but I think the petrol tank - it started up and ran like a dream for about six months, till it did it again. This time the local garage collected the car, had it three days, kept cutting out on them, but was showing up no fault on the computers. They diagnosed a fuel fault in the end, and replaced the fuel pump, and tank, which was in a right gunked up mess - and touch wood, it's not happened since.

ours are diesel so could be totaly diffrent problem if you have a petrol

I had my injectors replaced on 23/12/2011 and mine cut out on me 4 times on NYE, I gave it a decent thrashing afterwards and it hasn't done it since.

I have noticed mine does it when I'm doing a lot of stop start driving (traffic) too

Gazza - How did yours cut out? Low speeds, certain gears etc?

It happened again earlier, but had it on VAG-COM earlier and no faults within the engine.

Mine does it mainly down changing from 3rd to 2nd at low speeds, very annoying and quite dangerous especially at junctions.

Check for broken leaking vacuum pipes around the top of the engine

Exactly same as my to be honest mate, let me know if it carries on.

Check for broken leaking vacuum pipes around the top of the engine

No, I put it down to the same issue as I have with the car spluttering and being shite on idle, low on power etc sometimes. That issue I am putting down to the DPF. The only thing I could think of was something along the lines of the fumes from the DPF choking the engine or something similar to that. Either that or the EGR is buggered! I have the EGR mod installed but has the problem both before and after. Doesn't happen often though, probably had it 3 times in the last 40k miles.

Mine did it just after 34k once I had the new injectors fitted in August 2011

Then again at 37,800 and again today at 37,969.

Ye, I haven't let it worry me really - the only thing that worries me is the fact that it doesn't judder or anything, it just cuts out - the last time it did it I was coming onto a roundabout, slowed down, saw I could carry on so went to accelerate only to find no power and the car slowly rolling into the lane! Luckily I quickly realised what had happened and started it up whilst rolling and pulled off, could have been worse though.
