Hi guys,

Drove a mile down the road tonight and started losing power on and off, the car was juddering forward as if I was hitting the brakes hard every two seconds and the engine diagnostics light began flashing and then stayed on constantly.

Any ideas?

Appreciate it. Graham

I had ro read your profile to find out that you have a 1.2 petrol.

In that case I guess the coil packs would be the first place I would look. You have 3 coil packs, one to serve each spark plug. If one of them packs up the engine only runs on 2 of the 3 cylinders.

If the coil packs and spark plugs check out OK then start reading the "timing chain slipped" threads.

Sorry, should have mentioned that. Thanks for that though, got a mate who builds cars coming to take a look tomorrow so we'll see.

Ta for the quick reply mate.

I hope it's just a coil pack.

Coil packs are covered under warranty these days by the main dealers. Correct me if I'm wrong but they cover them for years and years as there is a known fault with them.

Do some searching on here for coil pack warranty. Saying that, coil packs are only about £30 and easy to diagnose and replace yourself. The error light on the dash should clear it's self once a new coil pack is fitted.

Nice one, my fingers are crossed then. The car was towed to a garage less than 2 months ago with a faulty fuel pump that needed sorting. First reLief problems I've had in seven years, so I can't moan too much!

We took out one coil pack this morning, started her up and there was no difference in the juddering, so it looks like it just needs a new one. My mate works at a company that convert vehicles into hearses, riot vans and more, so he'll be getting one through there.

Again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction Nath!

Try to stick with VAG sourced coils as pattern parts will not have been evolved as quickly as the real thing. Your engine warning light will stay on for a few engine starts if that was the only fault - but that code will stay in memory until cleared.
