I had so much trouble with my ibiza i thought i would share my grief with the forum and hope that one day i might save somebody else. Thanks to all the replied to my previous thread involving the issue and big thumbs up to M0rk for his correct diagnosis.
Car: 2.0 16v Gti (ABF engine)
Fault: Engine limited to 1400rpm. Engine appears to be 'hunting' and fails to move past 1300-1400rpm. Car idles fine but is undrivable in normal conditions.
Solution: Wiring loom to connectors each side of throttle body contained failing cable insulation (worn and heat damage). The loom splits in two to the rear of the engine bay and is clipped between exhaust manifold shield and the air intake mainfold. Where the loom splits to serve the positioning sensors/potentiometers each side of the throttle body damage was found. NOTE: The wiring is concealed with a protective shield/cable tidy and is not always obvious. Faulty wiring is replaced to ensure signal is clear from related sensors.
The damage
Location of sensor with faulty wiring
Removed faulty wiring
All fixed now. Please feel free to correct any mechanical errors i may have.
