Help!

I've just left my dad's house and the engine management light wont go off.

It's been stuck on.

I've got out of the car, checked the oil level - all good.

I've visually looked around the engine bay, and all seems OK (bearing in mind I have no idea with cars whatsoever) but nothing seems out of place.

There are no weird smells, performance is exactly the same as normal (quick) and I reset the consumption meter then drove around 50 miles (valleys down to cardiff then up to newport home) and consumption was excellent, like 57-60 on the way down, and then dipped to 55.

Car is: -

Facelift 06 Seat Ibiza TDI PD FR 130
Car has 16721 miles on the clock.
got serviced at 15000 miles (due to misunderstandings of the garage that sold me the car NOT servicing it at 9000 miles when they had it in their hands)
I have it in writing that there is no problem with this from Seat themselves, so the warranty should stand.

So, what could be wrong with the car, and what can I check for?

Other than the light being on, I cannot see any difference with the car.

HELP! Please.

PS: I have searched and cant find anything conclusive.

Don't know.

It was fiddled by Motorpoint - not a SEAT dealer, but they assured me that all SEAT parts would be used.

Servicing was 1600 miles ago.

I assume if they used incorrect oil, I would know before now, correct?

The alarm just went off too. Hmm, somethings not right. I'm missing a battery cover which is exposing some electricals on top of the battery? Maybe something being shorted there???

I have no idea, i'm clutching at straws.

wouldnt get too alarmed take it to your local dealer and ask them to do a fault code test on your car and the diagnostics kit will tell the technician the problem could be a sensor is misplased or broken or something simple like that

Cool!

Thanks for that. As I say, there's nothing obviously wrong with the car (it still goes like stink, and consumption is better if anything) I don't know. All fluid levels seem fine too. Pass!

The car is under warranty so I shouldn't have too many problems, I hope.

he doesn't know either...

We bought it together like 6 months ago and we never got round to learning it :(

But he's more than happy for me to come take a look.

Maybe i'll go up later tonight once i've done some reading up.

hmm it does seem as though nothing is wrong i'll be quite honest.

To test the performance, I was a little naughty and give some pasting in third right up to about 80 mph, and noticed no difference in performance (once I managed to remove my body parts from the back of my body)

I have to be fair, car's are weird bloody things.

Went out last night, did a 60mph cruise up and down the dual carriageway just outside my estate. It returned 55MPG. I squirted it, and no perfomance problems.

This morning, put the keys in, ignition. The damn light goes out, and stays out.

Car seems to perform much better than it used to do, and return better MPG's (I got early 50's on the way to work this morning, this was mainly @ 70 mph)

So, whatever.

IN the meantime, my dad's figured out VAGCOM and got it to recognise the cable we're using (as we don't have an official RossTech mofo), and i'm going up tonight to go looksee. I assume that the car will "remember" that the problem was there, so at least I could know for reference.
