Just got this light come up on dash in last couple of days, car seems fine. It runs ok and picks up with no problems. Now my options i think are buy a fault code finder off the bay and see what the problem is myself, i've seen this one if its any good?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seat-FAULT-CODE-READER-inc-Ibiza-Leon-Arosa-New_W0QQitemZ150196661982QQihZ005QQcategoryZ30921QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Other thing is to get it to Seat and let them have a look, but does anyone know how much they charge? I've been quoted £45 from an independent diagnostic company, for them to have a look.

I've only had the car since last saturday, so if it turns out to be a major prolem its going back. :(

I dont wanna scare you but the last time my engine management light came on it was the water pump and had caused a tear in the belt :(

you dont want to know the cost so i hope its not that.

Mmm well think i'm gonna order one of those fault code readers off ebay. But while i'm waiting for it to arrive, i'll take it to a local diagnostic place and see what they come up with. Really hope its nothing major.

Why don't you just download vagcom onto your lappy and buy a cheap cable and DIY - cheaper in the long run and you can guarantee the quality.

Not got a laptop, got to borrow one off a mate. Are the cables available from a shop or would i have to get it off ebay?

Ok an update. Got the fault sensor i linked too off ebay. Plugged it in and it came up with 3 codes for the engine, i've checked them in the supplied code database and here's what they are.

Code 1 - Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded) : P0012

Code 2 - Secondary Air Injection System (B2) - Incorrect Flow
or Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected : P0411

Code 3 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction : P1200

I'm going to be taking the car back to the place i got it from as its in warranty at least. But if anyone could shed some light on what the problems are, would be a big help.

air leak?

just a guess... trouble with code readers is the just give codes
vagcom you can log the car whilst its driving and actually see whats failing and shows the bigger picture.

worth getting to know a local with vagcom whatever you do

Just to give this thread a quick bump and to add a question of my own......

I've also had the Engine Management light come on recently, so as recommended by a few people on here, I bought a fault code reader off eBay.

However, my question is a lot more simple - and embarrassing - than those already asked! Where the hell is the socket that I'm supposed to plug the damn thing into?!?! :confused:

I've been on my hands and knees in the drivers footwell with a torch and I can't see it for the life of me! :redface: Can anyone shed some light on it for me, please?

And thank God for the anonymity of the Internet... :D

Cheers guys!

Lol you have no need to be :redface: the first time mine had an engine management light came up.. I called out the RAC (on the advice of SEAT assist) and when he arrived he had no idea where it was either... I had to ring m0rk for assistance!

Many thanks guys - it was exactly where you said, beneath the ashtray.

The description of the reader on eBay said that you could conveniently read the codes from the comfort of your drivers seat, and after 10 minutes on my back in the footwell looking for the socket, I thought I was going mad! :p

I've checked the codes and I have 3;
17705 = ???
16502 = Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit - High Input ( Low Temp)
17545 = ???

Time to use the search button, methinks... When the light first came on a couple of days ago, the engine seemed no different, but yesterday I noticed that the revs would surge by 100-200rpm every so often when idling. I hope I've done no damage in the 50 miles I've driven since it first came on... :(

Thanks again for all the speedy help!

:)

Ok, thanks to previous posts on here, and pointers to;

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Category:Fault_Codes

I've found that;

17705 = pressure drop between turbo and throttle
16502 = engine coolant temperature circuit (I've been having the early-morning-3-beeps for the last couple of months)
17545 = fuel trim: system too rich

Now, seeing as I've roundly demonstrated that I'm no mechanic ( in that I couldn't even find the socket for the reader :D ), can anyone please give me a rough idea of what the problem is or potential cost? I guess my immediate concern is whether I'm doing any damage driving the car while these problems exist - like most everyone on here, I can't get by without driving it each day....

Thanks again for all the help.

Probably a silly question, too, but I'll ask anyway... :p

If I go into the Seat dealer and tell them the 3 codes I've found that are causing the dash light to stay on, will I save myself the £60 they'd normally charge to hook the thing up to their PC?

I mean, surely if I've already got the error codes, they've just got to fix the related problems, right?! :confused:

I'm just trying to save as much money on the repair as possible this close to Xmas, especially if the other 3 faults turn out to be expensive!
