Engine oil pressure problem?

I have a cupra R 2003, remapped to 280bhp. When i cold started the engine a loud rattling sound came from the engine and the red oil light came on. This was probably caused by either a blockage in the oil sump or failure of the oil pump resulting in a drop in oil pressure. The car was just serviced 2 months ago and probably involved an oil change.

Is this a common problem with the VW 1.8 Turbo engine? Also what may have caused a blockage and how can it be avoided in the future?

not a common problem.

have you checked the oil levels?
It almost sounds like the oil has drained overnight. I would check the levels and also the sump and pipes for signs of damage / leakage.
Also perhaps the oil filer.

Yes

Checked the oil level which was fine. I did think it was strange because there were no signs of a problem when i switched the car off the night. The car is in the garage getting the engine stripped down at the moment. The RAC guy said it was a commom problem with this type of engine. Hoping its just a small problem like the oil filter.

Is it a very complication job to strip the engine to check the sump and oil filter?

Did you ever get a resolution on this fault, my car also makes the rattling sound on start up when cold and I have lost power too, i was wondering if i had a blockage?
