what is it in particular about an engine that makes it sound nice when revved? the dp?

my dad has a 1 litre suzuki swift and when you rev that it sounds fantastic, even if it is slow. my lcr while being pretty fast doesnt make much of lovely purring sound when you rev it.

Standard exhaust to meet emissions and noise regs and particularly having a turbo (generally make engine quieter) both don't help with engine sound note. Also the overall design/layout of the engine can produce a sound which isn't pleasing to the ear.
The 1.8T engine while a fab engine doesn't make the nicest sound to be honest.

The only 'nice' sounding engine you'll get in the Seat line-up is a V5. :p:D

...but then it doesn't come with a turbo.:(

I'm fairly sure most Porsche, Ferrari, Bugatti, Maser', Alfa V6 and even Scooby engines sound better than a porky old VR6! ;)

Oops sorry Rob forgot about those cars :)

However do any of the cars you've mentioned cost 2k to 4k like the VR6. hehehe

the thing that makes your dads swift sound nice is that its a 3 cylinder. They sound just like porsche flat 6's. It's weird! I've driven a few 3 cylinder cars and they all sound really sweet, but I can walk faster!
