I need to know the most obvious part required and where i could find one to rectify my problem.

My dashboard dail for engine temperature on my 1.6 Ibiza sport (mk3) is always on bottom 60C and every once in a blue moon rises to 90c before falling. I havnt heard my electric fans kick in for ages, and i do push the engine.

I need to someone in the know/someone encounter this problem to let me know where i can easily find a replacement part without visiting SEAT. (before i blow the head gasket)

My limited car knowledge has guessed maybe the Temparture sensor/switch is faulty.

Thank you for reading, any help without taking the piss would be appreciated.

i got a 1.6 sport aswell, the guy who sold it to me told me it had this problem and he got it fixed at seat. will have a look through all the reciepts i got with the car (a folder full) in the morning and try to tell you what was up, from memory i think it was a problem with the gauge at the dash end of procedings.

simply check the 4 fuses and make sure you pull them out.

Mine looked fine, but once pulled them out, they were water damaged and burnt out connectors.

If not, check your engine temp sensor (common fault, and poss your thermostat.

IF i were you i'd plug it into vag com, i have this same problem on my 1.4 the fans still kick in though cause they use a different temperature reading i think.

its the engine coolant temperature sensor. you'll probably get one of the following errors:

18028 P1620 Engine coolant temperature signal open/short to B+
18029 P1621 Engine coolant temperature signal short to ground
18030 P1622 Engine coolant temperature signal range/performance

i got the B+ error on mine which was intermittant sometimes it would be reading fine and others ups up and down.

I have checked the four battery fuses and they are fine. In ammaculate condition actually. looks like the problem is a sensor or switch. The red warning light works on the dail when key is turned which makes me think it does work okay (and i have seen the needle move a week ago).

anyone know the part number of a engine coolant temperature sensor. And price

no but as far as i know, you want the green coloured one, not a black one, the revised sensor.
