After washing my car today I decided to check and see if it had used any oil. When I checked there was absolutely NOTHING on the dipstick at all and the car had its 1st year service 3 months ago which includes an oil change. If I remember correctly the engine takes roughly 4 litres of oil? so thats 4 litres in 3 months and that is seriously not right. I checked the oil level exactly as it describes in the manual and I repeated that 3 times to make sure it was correct. Wtf should I do about that? Top it up again or book in straight into the dealers? Love the Cupra so much but I am slowly losing faith in the 1.4 TSI engine. Any comments or similar experiences welcome.

It can't of used all of it otherwise your engine will be dead! (Which is probably is anyway)
From past experience it takes around 1L to fill from the ball on the bottom of the dipstick to the top of the knurled area.
Fill it back up and record your millage and top up amounts over 1000km/ 620 miles as this is the distance that seat calculate oil consumption volumes from then send that data to your dealer.
You'll be wasting your time telling your dealer now because they will just tell you that the engine is meant to use oil and without any evidence they won't be interested so get your figures ready so you know how much the engine is actually using.
Mines currently in for a replacement engine after excessive oil consumption, bet that fills you with confidence!!

Haha not really! well I just measured it again and there is actually some oil but it is still below the minimum level on the dipstick so it has used a hell of alot. I will top it up, record how much oil its consuming before putting to the dealers. These engines may use oil but surely not as much as mine is!?

My FR has in fact already had an engine replacement after 4,400 miles from new for excessive oil consumption - 723 miles on this new engine and it is now getting through oil again... Even with 'normal' driving for the running in period with not very high revs and not hard acceleration but also with no sitting at a constant speed all day long so to keep the revs varied... Really have not had a great experience with the state of these engines' reliability and the seeming replacement with a 1.6 TSI by VW next year does not inspire confidence with these engines, for me at least, either..

It also states in the manual that 1 litre per 600 miles is at the top end of what should be the tolerated oil consumption of these engines but even if your car does happen to be within this, take it in anyway as it is just not right to have used all of that oil in that amount of time given fair mileage..

Nope not at all.. Have seen them about it and had a little top-up and noted that I am not happy with the car, now the ball is in their court, will just have to see what happens.. And that doesn't sound so great Stevoz03, that's just on the very limit of the tolerance and I assume since you've had a 1st service that the car has 'some' miles on it - so really I'd have thought it would have calmed down on the oil usage by now?? :S Get it back to the dealer you bought it from/had it serviced by and tell them that you are not happy with the excessive consumption, just at least get it logged and an oil consumption test underway so that you get the ball rolling.. 
Also by comparison, my first engine used all of its original oil in the first 1,750 miles.. Was a bit shocked to say the least.. :O Ever since then with this car it has been consumption test after test, stripped down the first engi engine then rebuilt with 'nothing wrong', then more test a couple thousand miles after that only for SEAT to declare its faulty and a new engine is needed.. Now more testing is being done and more enquiries sent off to SEAT.. To be honest I'd like a car where I don't have to worry about the oil if I do a long journey and I don't have to go back to the dealer every 500 - 1000 miles...
But yeah just make sure you get on top of the issue and your dealer involved!

Just got to say as an older member (33 yrs old) who's had plenty of cars performance, modded and run abouts. I have never had an issue with any vehicle losing more than maybe half a litre in 10000 miles including old classics. Just because they say in the owners handbook these engines can use high amounts of oil doesn't mean they should. Also to add to that the amounts some users are losing are simply ridicculous and should not be just passed off so lightly. These engines WILL suffer catostrophic failures early in their lifes if Seat do not act now and rectify this in some way. Just a thought to the more senior posters on here has any of you thought of creating a petition to send our thoughts to Seat???

I would be happy to sign a petition and send it off to Seat.
I bought my car in the hope to hang onto it for years and years but with the amount of problems they have and this oil issue when three years is up they can have it right back. Never getting another Seat after having 4 including this one.

Agreed too - Everyone who I have spoken too or told about my first engine being replacement cannot believe it, they've never known an engine to use so much oil! And plus with my replacement engine possibly being up the creek, how far is this all going to go?!
Perhaps it should not be Seat that have the finger pointed at them, but VW themselves? The engine is used in the Polo, Golf, Scirocco, Eos, Ibiza, Alahambra, Fabia and so on and so forth.. Now I have read a few cases of issues in Fabias and also a couple of Golf/Sciroccos.. So surely there must be issues across all of the models in which the engine appears in one form or another?? Possibly because the Ibiza was one of the first models along with the mk5 Golf to feature it however, there are more issues with them due to the cars being out for longer?

anybody remember having to run an engine in?
part throttle, low loads etc for first 1k, engine oil & filter changed then steadily build up to 'race' mode.
thought not, we now expect to use 'em straight out of the box.

you still have to run engines in and yes i do that for all my new cars and even then don't truely open them up till 5k so your sarcasm isn't needed on this serious issue.
