'kin hell, so you can't make fair comments now then?

you'll get no joy from SEAT, VAG or whoever, best course of action long term is not to buy'em, but again this won't work either, it's the way of life nowadays.

so anyone like to answer why my 217k pile of French shite C5 uses no oil between oil changes & still does 44+ mpg?

How is it a fair comment and no one is diputing that your c5 uses no oil the point i made is the same as yours. Doesn't mean i have to accept the fact. My engine should not be using the amounts of oil it does. Your comment was stupid and poorly thought out and i believe if it was your car suffering this way you would have refrained from your stupid comment.

LoOn

This is not right at all, my RX8 which are designed to use oil didn't use what some of you 1.4TSI owners are using and i've never had a piston engined car use so much unless it's hard worn piston rings.
VAG need to sort this. I will be staying away from any car with the 1.4TSI unit.

Yeah I agree with you Loon, The oil consumption is ridiculous so gonna get it to the dealers for a compression test or whatever they do to find out why its using so much. The most worrying thing is that my engine has always used oil since I got the car, but the amount its using seems to be increasing over time! So perhaps theres premature wear on the piston rings or valve seals or something.

just to be sure - are you all getting an oil level warning light telling you this, or is it based on checking the level manually?

i checked my oil last week and found that it had gone through 3 litres since my last service - 6 months / 3k miles since service (i should have checked my oil sooner i know). I rang my service dept who are pretty sound and was told that i am to expect usage of 1 litre per 1k miles.
I can't understand why my oil light didn't come on, or was it perhaps just about to?

Sorry I don't care what anyone says but one litre of oil in 1000 miles is excessive.

Since 1999 I have owned eight brand new VW group vehicles, most of them performance models, Golf GTI Leon Cupra R etc. NONE of them ever needed oil adding between services!

Get your finger out Seat, there is a problem here own up to it and sort it out.

In the manual it states 0.5l per 1000km, so 1l is taking the piss.
i've just had my engine replaced, it was using around 1l per 1000km so that is excessive.
What are the registration dates of all the cars concerned, mine is march 2010, possible batch of engines? I know my local dealers has 4 coming in for consumption tests all on 10 plates.

got 58 plate ibiza sport do 13000 miles per year and it doesnt use a drop between servicing. Hope this helps, no experience of 1.4 tsi so otherwise cant help.

Mines is a 10 plate from late april. It does use a fair bit of oil but i haven't measured the usage. Perhaps now is the time to start...

Looks like my oil consumption is starting to settle. Used to use 1L every 500 miles. I'm having the consumption test done at the moment and its only used 0.5L in almost 1000 miles.

Still not ideal but maybe it is leveling off. Car has done 4500 miles and is one of the last 60 plates

My FR used a quarter of a litre during the running in period. Since then it hasn't used any oil in 3,500 miles.

Iv found mine to be very similar after using it a little bit then doing 1k miles it didn't use any very strange isn't it

I am now at 1800 miles and used 3L oil dealer told me to book it in and they will drain the oil weigh the amount of oil they put in and I am to do X amount miles then take it back and they will empty it and reweigh the remaining oil, this will tell how much oil the car has used.

I've got an 11 plate Bocanegra that I registered almost 3 months ago. Since picking it up I was spotting the complaints about oil consumption in the 1.4 TSI engine on the forums so I've been a bit cautious (Borderline paranoia is starting to set in.....) but I've been checking it every couple of weeks and the stick is still telling me the level is fine.

tbh I think it is a bit hit and miss with these engines. Some seem to have major issues whilest others seem to be just fine. Fortunately, mine is fine it would seem.
