Hi all-just joined the forum in the hopes of sorting out a problem I have been having for the past month or so.
I recently bought a second hand 2000 reg Ibiza mk3 cool/s and intermittently the EPC light comes up on my dash board. When the light comes on one of two things will happen: 1) The car's acceleration will be limited; it will still rev ok, but will barely accelerate and will struggle to reach 65mph. Or sometimes,
2) The revs will drop to 0 and the car will stall; this has only happened a few times-normally the first case is what happens.

I have already done some searching and replaced the brake light switch as a likely culprit, but this hasn't solved the problem. I have also taken the car to my (Dad's favourite) garage to have the fault codes read. The mechanic reccomended that I change the throttle body, which I have also done and since then I have had the fault codes cleared, but the light has come back on within a day.

If anybody can help me to find the cause of this problem I would be extrememly grateful!

Thanks,

S

Thanks for replying!

The codes that I have are:

P1542 Angle sender 1 for throttle valve drive-G187: implausable signal

P1171 Angle sender 2 for throttle valve drive-G188: implausable signal

I'm pretty positive that its not the engine management light.

Thanks for the help

Sounds to me like the throttle body isnt adapted correctly, done this earlier on a leon, i have never seen a maf get so bad to make the car stall?

@Mark: I think the car only has a MAP sensor not a MAF sensor-is that what you meant?

@NooNoo: Can you explain what you mean by adapted? All I did was bolt it on!

Thanks guys

Just a quick update; I have taken the car to a garage and had the throttle bodyadapted/aligned, with no success. I do however have the following additional codes:

P1602 Power supply (B+) terminal 30: low voltage
P1564 Throttle valve control part-J338: insufficient voltage during basic setting

Could this mean that the battery is at fault and that as a result of the low voltage the throttle body is still not aligned properly?

Thanks

Its no been done correctly mate, this normally happens when a delphi diagnostic machine is used rather than a vas or vagcom so i recommend a proper dealer or specialist.
