Thanks Soche. Did the stealer help / sort out getting a discount on the work or did you have to fight it out with customer services? Sorry for the questioning!..just preparing myself for the battle

It was all done by Seat. I paid full whack, they subsequently requested the goodwill and let me know about a week later and i got a cash repayment. It was completely done in good faith by me as there was a chance they didnt pay anything back but i didnt see much choice...

Well, as expected, ran VAG-COM yesterday and got the following;

01435 - Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit

Possible Causes
Brake Pedal Switch (F) faulty/jammed
Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) faulty
Possible Solutions
Check/Replace Brake Pedal Switch (F)
See Measuring Blocks
Check/Replace Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201)
ABS Hydraulic Unit (N55) may need to replaced
Perform Brake Pump Bleeding
Perform Brake Pressure Sensor 1 (G201) Basic Setting
Replace Brake Electronics Control Module (J104)

So a few things to try first, but I'm hopeful it's going to be something as simple as a bust sensor.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the fault you have (g 201 brake pressure sensor) means the abs pump needs replacing, the sensor is intergrated within the pump and it cannot be stripped/repaired.

Cheers for the info mate.

It was nice of seat to tell us they were unrepairable! We threw out about 50 faulty units last week!

Ok I have this same problem and have been doing some research into this. I think there is a good case for taking them to court.

Reason being Sales of Goods act says after 6 months, the burden of proof is on the consumer to prove the goods were fault at the time of purchase. Mindful they have been using this part 54 reg models, they have since knowingly been selling cars with this part with an inherent defect still fitted. For the sake of a smalls claims court fee and mindful how the industry is in the spotlight because of the way that Toyota badly handled their issues, even if SEAT chose to contest it (chances are for that amount of money, they probably wouldn't), with a sympathetic judge would probably find in your favor.

They changed the part once they knew they had a problem not an issue after 2007 cars most cars had the part fail just after the 3 year mark. It also affects BMW 1 & 3 series and Volvo C30s/V40 as they were supplied the same part. VAG are heavily discounting the replacement cost or replacing them for free have you approached a dealer regarding replacement ?

The contract is between your dealer and yourself not Seat so you would need to take the dealer to the small claims court.

Well I got into the car this morning and noticed the ESP light had failed to extinguish. My daughter had been clambering about in the car and I thought she had stood on the ESP defeat switch. Needless to say the switch didn't seem to be working. Have just had a look with VCDS and I have the dreaded ABS controller error. The DTC wouldn't clear so i'll be phoning the dealer (Bickets, Kilmarnock) in the morning. Thankfully i'm still under warranty until December. Hopefully it will be a quick fix. I'll let you all know what they say when I phone them. Car's only done just over 15k and there were no tell tale signs of any problems.

I too have this problem on my 56 plate Leon FR.

Seat customer services say they cannot offer any participation towards repair costs as I did not buy the vehicle from a main dealer although it hase a full Seat service history and is 55000 miles.

Has anyone got any advice on who to complain to as I am not going to just hand over £1500 just like that.

Great forum by the way

Thanks

Bickets done mine. They never re-activated the trip computer after it though and the rocker switch wouldn't scroll through the trip computer info e.g. MPG, temperature etc etc. It was just stuck on MPG. Worth checking before you pull away as I didn't notice until I got home and i had to book it back in which was yet more hassle.

It was a warranty claim and there was no hassle getting it done so I'd imagine you'll be fine.

As discussed above. There's a few links to companies who say they can repair them. Although I'd argue it out with Seat first as there's a number of examples of this being an issue with Seat and VAG. I'm positive I've seen this reported in whatcar? (the section where they get involved to help car owners having problems with dealers/ manufacturers) you could always email them to see if they'll take it up for you. For £1,500 it's got to be worth a try.

Quite how a failed ABS control module doesn't warrant a safety recall is beyond me anyway. Surely this one must have been borderline in terms of VAG being legally required to issue a safety recall for all affected cars. Afterall your ABS system and ESP are effectively all turned off. I wouldn't like to explain that to an insurance company after a crash!

Good luck

Update:

Finally got mine repaired today. I requested goodwill from Seat up front given that it was a used approved car, only had 36k on the clock, had full dealer service history (lucky because I only decided to have the last one done at dealers last minute) and was only 6 months out of warranty when it went.
With some persuasive wording from myself on why I felt I should get goodwill and with some hard work from the dealer, Seat agreed to pay 50%. Still a hefty whack to fork out mind, and I have to say it will bear heavily on my mind when I come to car renewal time.
