We are open this saturday if you want to pop down then. You can just buy the std FWD TT shifter from Audi. Its only about £25 from there anyway. Or if you are coming up on sat i can get one if for you? Which is the clip thats broken?

Well the eagle has landed :(

Had the garage call today with abit of bad news to say the least, the line was pretty bad but i caught somthing about the selector arm being knackerd? I could be wrong about that but it was somthing to do with the selector but ill get all the info on monday when i call them back.

Basicly it sounds like its going to need a rebuild at a cost of ~£900

I should have the car back wednesday all being well, ive now decided to keep the car as it seems pointless spending all this money to sell it on a week later.

Now ive decided im keeping her im going to treat her to a few goodies and get her finished, starting with swapping my sticky wilwoods for brembos, uprating the engine mounts, once all this is done ill get my k03 made into a hybrid and finish the project, which should have been done by now it it wasnt for this gearbox problem :( Hoping to have it all up and running by the end of december.

Happy days!

£900!!! :( Mega expensive. Ive got a load of gearbox internals and selectors sat in a box at work. Minus a 2nd a 3rd gear tho! I cant believe it would cost that much tho

That is my box being re-conned pretty much, aswell as labour and fluids.

guess its the price you have to pay when its somthing you cant do yourself.

But thank you for your helpful comment

Ok guys need your opinions on this one as im a little unsure on what to do, basicly ive manged to find a second hand box with the same milage as the one thats busted (43k) for £470 deliverd.

So whats best? Do i run the risk and get this box deliverd and fitted or go ahead with the rebuild?

Rebuilds going to be approx ~£900.

I would have thought that to get the box fitted there going to charge me approx ~£200 so ill be looking at £670.

Not really sure what the best option would be as i dont want to run into problems using a 2nd hand box but on the other hand £900 is alot of money to anyone!

The box is from a cupra but AQX where is mines AYP im pretty sure it fits but wouldnt mind sombody confirming that for me.

I think you should have a word with IbizaAlex and see if he will rebuild it for you.

Failing that buy the other box and get that fitted, atleast if it does go again you have your old box and then this other 2nd hand one. Is there a guarentee with the rebuild?

Its in the garage now so getting Alex to do it is kinda outta the question as ill still have to pay the labour for them removing and refitting my old box plus what ever Alex would charge for rebuilding it.

Theres a 3 month guarentee with the second hand box, but the garage wont give me a gaurentee on the rebuild as the cars modified. I`ve trying haggling with them because they wont give me a warrenty but im not sure how far ill get. He told me because of the current state the country is in financially there apprently cracking down on companys doing cash deals and told me he`ll see what he can do closer the time which to me sounds like a NO.

I have till monday to decide what to do.

Cheers for the idea.

Get the second hand box mate its got warranty and its not like the boxes are common for goin wrong so unlikey it gonna be buggered. Plus its cheaper! Also this garage who said they will rebulid your box, have they ever rebuilt one of these before?? because they anit easy so you could get a crap tech building for you who doesnt no one part from the next, and thus getting a shite rebuild with no warrenty

id go for the second hand box mate, then get the garage that is fitting it to look over it and also your getting a warrenty with it, cant believe a garage dont put warrenty on there work, thats complete Sh*t if something is going to happen with this second hand box it will be just after you have fitted it then will be still in warrenty ask them if the box does break who will pay for labour to take it off and a new one on again!!!

I know what your saying mate, was only a thought if you had the funds
But i would get the second hand one as its cheaper and get some warrenty, and if anything ever does go wrong again you've got your orignal gearbox to get rebuilt in your own time, so gives you a few more places or people to ask

Remember a warranty isnt always worth the paper its written on. I think the garage have to give a warranty on parts and their work but Im unsure if they can get out of it because its modified.

TBH i would go for the 2nd hand box. A rebuilt box is only as good as the person rebuilding it and shimming the bearings correctly etc. If you do go for the 2nd hand box, i will have your old box off you for spares??!

i think it also depends on how much further your after modding your car i.e. BT so if you have the funds maybe consider putting a LSD in whilst the box is out?

well ive pretty much decided what im going to do, aslong as the garage hasnt started work on my old box im going to get the second hand one deliverd and get that fitted and keep the spare box and at a later date in the new year get it rebuilt along with a LSD when funds allow. The garage phoned me friday afternoon with the problem and i gave them the go ahead to rebuild it as i wasnt aware of this second hand box im going to phone them at 8.30 sharp in the morning when they open to hopfully change the direction of what there going to do, just hope its not to late.

Alex if i decide not to go ahead with the rebuild/LSD ill give you a shout, but on the other hand would a rebuild and fitting a LSD be somthing you would be interested in doing?
