Going to look to re-attach it at weekend, anyone got any idea what bolts I'll need etc? It's rather annoying sitting on top of the exhaust rattling away!

If I've got it right, it is one of these aluminium shields that are above the exhaust that has fallen down and is touching the exhaust. If so, what has happened, normally, is that due to the interaction between the chassis - steel, and this shield - aluminium (dissimilar metals), the area of aluminium above the steel retainers has "melted/dissolved" and the shield has dropped down over the retainers. What I do when that happens is, remove the retainers - you might need to bend the tangs so that they can be reused, cut up repair washers big enough to cover the holes in the shield(s), lift shield back up, force a repair washer on followed by the retainer. Empty tin cans provide suitable material.

Haha cheers guys, that's pretty much an accurate description of what I think has happened. I've got some washers etc. on their way so I'm going to get under it at the weekend. It's right above the backbox, so, depending if it's repairable or not, I may end up removing it.
Use a couple of beer bottle tops (metal ones), with a small hole drilled in the middle. They screw on tight and do the job perfectly. Also an excuse to get wasted.
Good alternative, the proper repair washer route will not work as proper repair washers are too thick - so you will run out of "length" to press the retainer on to - which is the very reason I suggested using beans etc tin as they are very thin.
When it happened to mine it was just the clips which had rusted away. I bought some new ones from the local Skoda garage for 45p each and pressed them back over the pegs on the underside of the car. They are about the size of a 2p piece, so if the hole hasn't enlarged in the heat shield they should be all that is required to refit the shield. The hard part is knowing what they are called to ask for them in the parts department.
