The market changes daily with insurance as they are based off all insurance comapnies - last year Admiral were driving down prices so all other insurers had to do the same to keep up!

Insurance quotes are based on a point score - points for you as a person, age etc, how many accidents you have had, what car you have, where you live, where the car is kept..then it generates a price!

I work in the claims side of things as a Liability Consultant - I decide who is at fault for an accident, send cases to court and all that fun!

I get more annoyed people that the quotes side of things I think - I get people annoyed that they are at fault for an accident or that they have to accept partial liability due to lack of evidence.

It pays the bills and for my new wheels so that is all that matters :)

Ahoy there shipwatchers! Good news for us week 11 builds; Although 3 boats have already sailed this week for the UK, the Galicia is going to load next Monday (17th) and will also be heading for Tynemouth so we might have these cars in the Uk around 24th March! I'm guessing we're going to be seeing a lot more Leons on the road in the next month. :D

I hope you are right...

Called CS this morning and mine was built on the 10th (Monday) but can't tell me at the moment whether it will make the next boat on the 17th.
My fear is that there may be other cars in front of the week 11's still to ship so we may have to wait a little longer.

Excalpino you mentioned yours left the factory on Wednesday morning. Do you know which day it was built? Just be interested to see how long it takes in general from build to port, port to ship, etc.

Last time I felt this anxious was waiting for the first dustbin lid to be born.

Jordanwilson - "when I 1st passed I bought a car - £ 1200 it cost me. Then it cost me £3000 for insurance - thought to myself, well if I crashed then was only ever going to get back what the car was worth so I'd be paying double plus more to what I'd be ever getting back, but gotta be paid I suppose."

Yes, the insurance company are more worried about their financial liability to the other car/ people/property that you hit rather than just the value of your car, and statistically newbies have more hits.

Hot news for ship-watchers:

Those watching the "La Surprise" may be interested to know that according to my dealer she is docking at Sheerness first to partially unload, before going on to the Tyne. So those of us in the south who thought we had a long wait for the ship to go all the way up to Newcastle and then our cars be transported back down to the south again by road may not have so long to wait as we thought.

1.2Tsi SE - ordered Jan 16th - car on the "La Surprise", currently off Portugal coast.
Dealer collect estimate - back end of next week.

Mine arrived at port today! Week 11 build, ordered 4th Feb.

Not sure whether this means it'll make it into the boat scheduled to leave on 17/03 or not. I suppose it depends on any backlog.

Seat CS weren't able to give anything specific, only quoting the standard times (i.e. Car is expected at UK port in 2 weeks from now, with delivery to dealership 3-4 days after that).

They'll know more in 5 days or so, which does tie up with the departure of the boat... I'll try middle of next week.

I just called my dealer (I know they are a bit of a flake) but he just said that his system is saying it is docked in Sheerness and that it is waiting to go through itinerary check and then logistics to them.

Bit confused as Seat HQ said that it was shipped and due to be in on Monday?

Proof is in the pudding I guess.

As a person literally in the same boat I hope your dealer is correct.

I am a bit curious as to how your dealer can have knowledge of ship calls, whilst all mine can say is that it is on the system as in transit

Hi Expatal - I can only guess that mine is looking further into the systems information they have available. He phoned me (unchased), confirmed it is on the "La Surprise" and said did I know I could track it and it is currently doing 10 knots off Portugal?

I said the details on the tracking site show La Surprise's destination is Tyne, but he said whether or not it ends up there, his information is that it will definitely be at Sheerness on Monday, and my car will come off there. He will call me then to arrange finance, 7 day insurance, tax, collection etc.

Thats sounds very reassuring Mk1 (if I may be so familiar).

I just hope the news is still good on Monday.

I'm one of the week 10ers and when I phoned the dealer this afternoon he said that my car is now bobbing about on the briny! Therefore I will now join those obsessives who are watching the ship movements - I live in Northumberland so I presume mine will come into the Tyne.Yes my wife thinks it is pathetic!

Hi ChrisP, Sorry can't add definite info.; maybe my optimism is built on frustration, but I was hoping that 3 boats leaving this week might have cleared backlog. Just trying to lift spirits!

Excalpino, fair play you are right to be optomistic.
Looking at some of todays additions you may have a good point. Just going by Syphon's Cupra order which was built Week 10 (Thursday 6th) and is currently on the L'Audace which left Barcelona yesterday (12th)?

Fingers crossed a few more of us may get good news early next week.
