Took my car to a National Autocenter today for an MOT.

Failed!

Sidelights not working (I couldnt understand that but its no big deal I've bought new ones and ill fit myself obviously).

Headlights out of alignment (Every MOT I have, they do this, im sure its a con to make people spend more).
They did that themselves, so doesnt count as a fail.

Front tyres below 1.6mm tread :(

Really annoying, but the worst part is, I have to pay £25 when I take it back to them after I have tyres fitted! I already had to pay £61 for the MOT now!
It's out of order really, what happened to the days of free re-testing at the same center?

I just ordered 2 Yokohama A539's to be fitted tommorow at home, for £116 all in, not bad.

I have Toyo T1-R's on them at the moment, good tyres, but they do seem to run down a bit quick! :(
Hopefully the Yokohamas are OK!

Not a massive thing I know! But still frustrating to be ripped off by MOT places for re-test fees!

most places in my area do free re tests up to a week after the failed one, so its strange that they charge you extra. i've got my MOT this week so hopefully it will sail through. i know how you feel with the cash thing tho, i have also had to get a service, tax and all new brakes this month along with the MOT.

Yea, I really wish I hadnt gone to them now mate, as I saw another place that said free retest.

These cowboys told me if I come back within 10 days its only a partial retest fee, which is £25.

Ahhhhhh!

Am gutted for ya mate :(

Luckly they are all little things :D Hopefully it'll pass 2nd time round :D

MOT retests are stuck to us with them all being hooked up via computer to DVLA these days. They are timed on the tests as well...
you may find its not within the control of the test centre, its DVLA imposing charges.

No dvla set a price for the test as a guide its up to the garage what they charge, i think the official price is about £47.50 summit daft like that. Its crap for me in the workshop tho

Main Dealer + £20 m.o.t . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . = a rite lot of shitty old banger to work on lol.

I'm sure I paid about £40 for my MOT a few months back and was told if it did fail the re-test was free.

Not sure about the Yokohama tyres you're going for as I heard they are soft rubber and won't last that long.

My place does free MOT retests if you have the work done by them or buy a tyre if needed. I only pay £35 for an MOT. Local ford garages have a good deal on at the moment £25 plus free retest!

I was charged £35 for an MOT and they did a retest for free. The original test was abandoned cos the car over heated-same old burnt fuse preventing the fans coming on!

I also had to have my headlights aligned!

With the sidelights, if it would have been just them, they wouldnt have failed it, as Halfords is next door, etc.

I don't know how to measure tyre treads.

Also, it has fDsh.

Oh well, 2 tyres will do, lol!

Thats why they have pretty little blocks so you can see when they are low !!
