Hi All, can I get opinions on Falken tyres? I'm considering them to replace the Conti Premium Contact 5s on the front of my mk 3 1.2 TSi

Had Falken tyres on one of my Biza Cupra's and they were as good as the PZeros but lasted longer, but of course there are umpteen different Falken versions for different use.

I'd choose them as a good day to day tyre, had several sets and it's predecessor on a golf a few years ago.

Never used falkens before but have used hankook ventus v12 on a couple previous cars and I'd highly recommended them. As and when I need to replace tyres on mine I'd seriously look at them again based on previous experiences.

Thanks for the tip, but the Ventus v12 doesn't seem to be available in 205 55 16 and the reviews aren't as good as the Falkens.

I'd use them as a recommendation to somebody I didn't like or if I wanted to make some hipster planters. I'm not even sure that a tyre wall would benefit from their use either...

Had 2 sets of different types of falkens in my time - both had less grip than a fingerless hand. Personally I wouldn't buy any more because of this experience.

Just to confuse things and counter to the previous two posts, I found the Falken 452s on my Mk1 150tdi (remapped to 210) to be as good as Michelin and better than Pirelli, Continental, Dunlop.

At the suggestion of a tyre place, I fitted the ZE914 to the front, they were absolutely dreadful. So bad, I moved them to the back but still had to take them off after too many breakaways from the rear end. Made life so unpredictable.

So, it depends so much on tyre size and tyre model as well as the car.

Hankook and Avon have a few good tyres at those prices. (205/55/R16)..for a bit more there is also Pirelli P7, Dunlop SportblueResponse and GoodYear EfficientGripPerformance...at least according to mytyres...the latter 2 seems to always get good reviews in most places..

My friend had Falken Ziex 914s on his Citroen. He said they were ok...then he changed all 4 as approaching MOT to Dunlop SportBlueResponse...then he realised...actually the Falkens were not really ok...oops...

Never skimp on tyres...

I have to agree with this. I had FK452's fitted to my 350z and they were great. Better than the Bridgestones which came on the car, especially in the wet. On a 300bhp rear wheel drive car with an LSD you can't drive around on crap tyres as you will find a ditch very quickly! Can't comment on any of the other models though.

Get what you pay for, Falkens generally get good reviews from owners as they're justifying their tight arse purchase.

Look at official reviews by magazines etc and they do pretty badly.

I discarded two "as good as new" tyres because they were not good. I tried all the big brands (at all the big brand prices) and did a subjective comparison based on the tyres ability to keep me pointing were I wanted to go - wet and dry. Currently running my Mk3 on big brand priced PS4s.

Different tyres suit different cars....and owners.

Thanks for your worthwhile comment.

Of course you can show proof that you have tested a set of FK452's and an 'expensive' tyre back to back on a 350z and have factual, not subjective, evidence that the expensive tyre significantly outperforms the Falken?

In this application, I was a true sceptic and was proven wrong.

When it comes to spending money, I wouldn't be described as a tight arse BTW.
