Hi folks,
Picking up my new exeo sport tech 170 on Tuesday really looking forward to getting it. First job I have is to get it sorted out with a towbar and I have a couple questions after reading some of the towbar treads as it has parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring etc

1) what is a canbus?
2) some people have said the cars can be prepared for trailer wiring at the factory, is there an easy way to tell?
3) are there any benefits to getting a genuine seat wiring kit over an aftermarket one?

Thanks.

Canbus is a digital data link, basically most of the cars systems are all linked together and share information.

I'm not sure how you can tell.

I wouldn't say get a Seat one specifically (I believe its westfalia anyway) but I would definitely get a vehicle specific kit. It will then integrate with the cars canbus system, cutting out your parking sensors when connected, cutting out your fog lamp I believe and reversing lamps. It also makes use of the trailer indicator on the dash and most importantly it can affect the stabilisation program and engine cooling making I in theory much safer for you and for your engine.

Thanks, I will start looking into vehicle specific kits tomorrow and try and figure out if I could fit myself then get mechanic to do the programming.

The westfilia kit seems to be the best, it is literally plug and play where as some of the other kits seem to require sscotch lock connectors still.

As for coding it can be done with vagcom if you have it or there is somebody local to you to do it.

To actually fit it is just taking panels off and routing the wires.

If you are based S England, there is a retrofitter who is highly regarded on ASN - pm me and I can send you his details.
