Hiya Wes - did you get anywhere with this? I've got exactly the same problem, but in reverse. Last week the 'excess polution' / emmissions warning light was on for three days, the went off.

Then this morning the speedo dropped down to zero after about 10 miles. If you switch off and restart, it registers again for a while, then drops back to zero. The mileometer also isn't clocking the miles and worst of all is the constant fuel warning beeps.

Time for earplugs, or is there a fix???

That's great Wes - thanks for the info. I'd been ripping the dashboard apart, searching for the bulkhead water leak that a number of people have mentioned. Turned out that the leak (which only happened in torrential rain) was through the electrics cover under the wiper mechanism.

So I could have saved myself a lot of hassle. I thought that in taking the dash apart I'd messed up with the cables or shorted something, but it looks like that might just be a coincidence. Hopefully a new speedo might do the trick.

I might be back on to find out how to fit it. So although I'm still sad, I'm not soggy anymore. Cheers.

Hello again Wes - hopefully you’re still out there - otherwise, a question for anyone else.

When I eventually contacted Vee–Dubs, they wanted the part number. I can’t see it anywhere on SCN, so, do you have the part number for what you bought?

And am I looking at replacing whole instrument cluster for £26.00? This seems very cheap, as I found one place that would ‘repair’ the cluster, and they wanted £150.00 just to repair, so god knows what they’d charge for a new one.

And sorry, but what did 'handy changed' mean in your second post?

I also saw something the other day that said not to mess with the speedo as the immobiliser could be affected. Is that true?

I'll answer my own post. Total cost to fix my speedo - £0.00.

A year on from sealing the water leaks once and for all, and gradually the speedo has played up less and less. For the past three months it's been absolutely fine.

So maybe it was due to the electrics drying out, or not allowing the petrol gauge to drop below half way, but whichever, it seems to have sorted itself out. So maybe that's the solution for anyone else with the same troubles.
