Had my cupra r for a few months now and decided it's time to make my first mod...
Any veteran cupra owners out there that can advise me on what they would recommend as a first performance mod as above in the title to this thread?
Or any other suggestions? The car is completely OEM with only 32k on the clock. Any advice for a newbie please?:)

Hi tom. Hope you are enjoying your new motor...
You need deep pockets when you become a member on here, wish list just seems to go on and on...
But going back to the question. I have a powertec on mine and it performs well. Nice noise and looks the part. The gains are negligible but get a good cold air feed and it will work for you. The enclosed type filters like the viper have bad feedback from members on here, so personally I wouldn't but each to there own..

As above, the gains from any induction will be negligible so save your money and get a jetex (highly recommended) then you can have more money towards you next mod like a forge 007 or something

Okay thanks guys, so is the 80mm jetex/JR filter ok on its' own or would I need to buy a heatshield or anything else to get the most out of the filter?

Jetex filter... I've just put one on my LC and it sounds amazing. For £40 you can't really argue!

So have you/anyone else here fitted a heatshield at the same time as the filter? If I just made do with the filter for now would this cause problems without the shield?
Sorry if these are stupid questions but gotta start somewhere:D

Yeah I got the eBay heat shield. The heat shield holds the silicon coupler pipe nicely in place and stops the whole lot moving about. If you can secure the filter/MAF by other means then go for it.

The eBay one isn't too bad tbh, sturdy and fits (just) and does the job it was intended for. I havent got the time or skills to be making my own heat shield!
The seller will accept an offer of £20 plus £5 p&p.

I'll get some pics of mine and post below...

Just an update for everyone (thanks for the advice), bought the JR filter and ebay heatshield, I couldn't find any other heatshields except a couple that only came with full induction kits (ie jabbasport). Both were shipped today so hopefully be here by the weekend:clap:

I know this is old, but I'm looking at buying the jetex filter.
This is my first car so I'm a massive noob with all this stuff.
Is it just the filter and a heatshield that I would need?

Also I've been searching eBay and I can't seem to find a heatsheild anywhere, could someone help please.

Cheers.

Get a Jetex/JR filter mate, i would steer you away from any other.

With regards to your question, get yourself a silicone coupler/joiner to push the filter further into the wing (closer to the cold feed and further from the heat). This would need to be 100mm in length and a diameter of 70mm (for LC) or 80mm (for LCR). You will need a couple of relevant sized jubilee clips too.

Once you have fitted this, you then have a decision on what to do with the SAI pipe. I stuck a mini 25mm breather on this and attached it to the heatshield, looks neat too!

Cheers mate, thanks for your help.

I don't suppose you could help me find a heatshield could you? I've tried searching eBay over and over again and just can seem to find one. Any suggestions?

Cheers.
