Hiya all

Fitted so new ds2500 pads and some discs from badger about 2 weeks back and there just not feeling that great, no where near as good as i would have expected and have done just over 300m on them, did the bedding in procedure and warm them up but still no massive improvement on old vag pads,

1. Do you think a brake fluid change would help last done at 35,000 now on 65,000, pedal feels a little soft?

2.What fluid is best after alot of searching seems
MOTUL - RBF600 is the way to go, and how much am i gonna need

3.How easy is it to bleed the system myself never done it but more than up for a go.

All the best

Ben

I just changed my brake fluid last week I used halfords 5.1 and its the absolute go-nads brakes feel stronger than they ever have. I have access to a compressosr so bleeding the brakes was easy for me never had to do it manually before sorry :(

what does the pedal feel like. you say they dont fell as good as oe, which is certainly not a ds2500 thing at all. spongy pedal? longer travel?
you did follow the bedding in how to in my section yea?
you can repeat it without a problem if needs be

new fresh fluid should sharpen up the pedal feel
motul rbf600 is £10.99/500ml bottle + vat for info

I hope you washed the discs before putting them on.... ;)

For bleeding, if you need to do it, you'll need a pressure bleeding kit or something that creates the same effect. Do not bleed with a 1 way valve kit where you sit pressing the brake pedal - you'll feck the master cylinder.

Oh and my personal brake fluid of choice for my other car (not changed fluid in the leon yet) is castrol super dot 4.

motul rbf600 has higher dry boil temp than castrol super4 (I tried this and it was good, but not good enough for my use, motul cured my boiling brakes problem)

I've only used castrol super4 in the S13 on the road, not on track; I never managed to boil it even when having lots of fun on national speed limit roads with lots of islands and corners etc. I'll likely want to use it on track when I've put it back together so that info will be useful :)

What is the recomended life on brake fluid, I think I read 2 years for normal road use right?

I think mine might be well overdue as i've had the car a little over two years..

For £40 I'd let the garage do it, especially as they are flushing it as well. And if you are changing to a racing fluid you'll probably need more than a litre to make sure the old stuff is completely replaced.

I would also try the bedding in process again. It seems possible that you're pads have glazed. In my experience DS2500 work really well even from cold. Good luck
