Cant find an answer so thought i'd ask.

Anybody doing 312mm brake conversion had a problem with hoses? You might remember my previous thread where i was asking whether 312's callipers & carriers from a audi b5 fit... good news is they do.

Pretty p*ssed off, just stripped car down to hubs went to removed brake line and found this:

(~New caliper left (red) old one right (dirty) )

The 288 caliper has a different thread to the 312. Now the 312's came with a brake line if that makes sense (the peice im holding in my hand screws into the 312 caliper but obviously this cant connect to the brake line as it would be thread to thread. (the thread in the top right is what connects into the red caliper leaving the other side to connect to the brake line... some how)

Any ideas ? i dont know what braided lines would be required.

Just a pic to show that the calipers i sourced previously fitted to a b5 audi fit. Can get you model numbers if anybody else is trying to source some (although you'll be in the same predicament as me with the hoses !

I've read that someone used Audi TT lines instead, but I would like to 100% know this answer because I'm in the process of doing the 312mm conversion

Yes some people seem lucky enough to get the right calipers which are often a direct fit for the hoses. The bits I sources where previously fitted to a b5 Audi a4 (alot of people said the carriers wouldn't fit but luckily they do). I don't care about buying TT brake lines I would just like some confidence that they will do the trick and be compatable with everything on the otherside of the hose I.e bolt onto the metal brake line master cylinder side.

So eager to get these fitted after spending all this money and being stuck on the last hurdle. Only good thing is when they didn't fit I Did a full brake fluid flush which was overdue by the colour of the fluid!

The calipers / carriers may fit but maybe the A4 has different hoses?
Is that brake pipes going to the caliper or hoses, as I see theres the pipe attached to the caliper. Usually its hoses that attach to the caliper and not hard piped?

I've never seen any VAG cars that don't have m10x1.0 brake fittings. Right back to mk1 golfs. So I'd suggest your doing something wrong or it's been re-threaded at some point

No deffinately doing nothing wrong, you can see in the picture the stock lucas caliper has a much corser thread.

I've spoken with awesome who have been very helpful - the banjo connector for the A4 is different 1.5mm if i remember correctly. One of their suppliers is able to do me a 'custom order' braided hose to supply both banjo connectors.

To everyone else who is thinking about doing the 312mm conversion if you know you got your brakes from a TT 1.8t your stock hoses will bolt right on.

Yes, the B5 platform cars do have a short length of rigid pipe that takes the fluid from the calliper back to where the flexi connects!

Finally fitted the 312mm brakes using braided lines and the audi banjo connecter it was the 1mm banjo i used not the larger threaded 1.5mm.

So I can confirm that the 312mm sourced from a B5 audi do fit. There is a thread somewhere with confirmed calipers i dont know if a mod wants to update it with the ATE calipers from Audi
