fitting coil pack?

ppl,
i have the prob in that my car wont regulate when in neutral it revs up n down n also some times nearly stalls. The car doesnt boost some times or is very weak.
i have been told its most likly the coil pack an have bought one but havent a clue where to start ir even where it is to repace on the car, (Appologies for the fact i know f**k all about repair n maintanance on cars)
any help or pics would be fantastic

Hi Dan,

If you open the bonnet you'll see 4 coil packs, on the engine.

They will either be push in ones (black topped) or bolt down (black top with yellowy/white logo on them).

If it's coil number 4 (1-4 is left to right when looking down at the engine bay), you'll see the charge pipe is in the way, so just unbolt the bracket and move it aside if you need to change that one.

Thing is, if you've been told it's the coil pack, but not which one, you can spend a lot of time finding out!

Find someone near with VAG-COM they will be able to tell which cylinder the faulty coil is in.

If you can't, then it's trial and error...! Take coil 1 out, put new one in, see if car runs better, if not put the other coil back, put new coil in cylinder 2 and so on...

or just get the car on tickover, unplug each coil, if the engine note doesn't change, then that's the faulty one
