Hey guys, one of my friends is selling their sub+amp for a good price and I'm tempted to get it. He has only just bought it and now he needs cash so he's selling it for cheaper

I got told that you need wires in the back for hooking everything up, and that some CD players don't have these wires. Does the CD player that comes as manufactured have these wires or do I need to buy a new CD player?

If I did have to buy a new CD player, would my steering wheel controls still work? (Volume, skip track etc)

I have a SEAT Ibiza '58 Plate Sportrider

Thanks for your help,
/Tom

you'll need a new cd player (head unit) and you'll also need a wiring kit, not too expensive from hellfords.

mine is wired horribly so i'll not give you any advice on running the cables in...i'll let some1 that put time into wiring theirs explain that bit :)

and regarding your steering wheel controls, they will only work if you buy a compatible head unit, if your in buying one ask and i'm sure they'll be able to show you which ones are suitable

Or you can use a line output converter for £7.99 from halfords! And theyre easy to wire into mk4's. Take about 40 mins for a good job!

you'll get better control with an aftermarket head unit, better quality of sound imo!!

when ur earthing in the mk4 remove the fabric trim from the right hand side of the boot and you'll see a nice wee earthing point :) discovered this the other day and kicked myself after spending ages working out where to earth when installing mine :)

Woah, don't touch that earth point. I tried to take it apart and snapped it clean off :| It's only spot welded on.

I just found a pre-drilled hole behind the carpet, sanded it and earth it there. I have fit amps to two Ibiza's now and the first time took forever but I had it all up and running within 2 hours on my new car. Its easy when you know what to do.

First you'll need to find the blanking grommet to go through the bulk head, that is located on the right hand side just above the battery. There is two, pop them out and feed the power cable through... make sure to seal it afterwards or water will get in.
The wire drops out behind the glove-box. I just removed the kick panel under the foot-well, reached up and grabbed the wire. This is good if you have an extra pair of hands, its fiddly and anyone with small hands is better (I used my sister haha).

You can took the wire under all the trim up until the boot. Either force it up if the wire is 8 gauge or take all the panels off and took it under properly. I have 4 gauge wiring and it fits fine, I know of people with 0 gauge running through there.

You will need a new headunit for the RCA pre-outs. Yes, its possible on the stock unit with RCA converters but its a real arse on and you get **** results IMO. Never again will I help a mate who says "Fancy helping me solder my RCA convertors?".

A bit offtopic..

.. But could someone tell me where'd be the best spot(s) to lead +Wire from the battery into the car. Is there some holes already or should I try to benefit from some components assembly holes or something?

Imma noob and I have an Ibiza Fr so it's quite packed under the hood.

I'd be pleased if someone helped me out. The amp for the sub must be powered. I've had this car for two weeks and the descant disco is already freaking me out.

Thank you in advance.

Ohh...on my Polo 9N there is a little bendy thing that sticks out under the ECU next to the ABS unit.
The rear windscreen washer pipe goes through there...
I fed my lead through that hole and the cable appears in the passenger footwell.

See if this exists on your Ibiza mk4. It's tidier this way...

there should be a grommet lower down beneath the ECU.
my cable follows the rear windscreen wash pipe from the windscreen washer bottle into the passengers footwell.
then the cable goes down the bottom left tucked inside the plastic sides.

though i have to say your ibiza looks a little different.
ill take some pictures and post them later.

LawrieIbizaMK4: I'll get a picture of my earth. It's very tidy.

It would be impossible for me to use that grommet in the picture above due to my cable being so thick. The cable that is routed now was powering 1200w RMS of 2 x JL Audio subs. (They aren't mine, neither are the cables).

Just for you'se lot, I'll post some pictures of how I routed mine. I like mine its very simple and usually the route everybody else takes. I am in the process of changing it all (adding another amp for my speakers :D) So it's not tucked under any panelling or tidy in any way, plus the power cable isn't mine.

I am lazy and haven't bothered to put my own cables in yet due to the amp and subs belonging to my friend. I usually just have a small 300w 12 inch sub which does the job. I aren't into big bass any more, plus the boot flex from the two 12's scared me. I've decided to spend the money on some good quality speakers and amp instead.

Keep an eye on a thread popping up of my ICE install. I will be taking pictures of the whole lot. It's going to look stock with the amp hidden behind the rear quarter and new speakers from and back.

I should be running 150w x 4 RMS for the time being. Not sure when it will get finished cos I have ran out of money haha (lost my weekend job). I am only 18 and managed to spend £900 so far on the install (including a new headunit).
