got my key today so will try just waiting on blank key part to turn up then hoping everything will work:0 will it reprogramme the sme way by putting in old key and turning ignition on?

Did anyone else have trouble ordering the replacement badge (1M0 837 891A) from their dealers. My one (stockport) couldn't find it on their system.

I've got a 3 button one, I'm kinda hoping I can get the boot button to unlock the boot (not pop it obviously 'cos there's no solenoid) as it's quite annoying having to remove the key from the ignition before the boot will unlock with the standard "unlock" button.

am having trouble getting chip out of the flip one any ideas well and true glued in :(

Just wondering, if I bought one of these could I then just take it into a locksmith to get the key cut, then do the lock the door with the other key in thing, and that's it, job done? Would prefer a 2 button but I guess either way it'd still be neat to have a flip key! I have a Leon TDi SE 2003 by the way.

Cheers guys

Hi, it arrived yesterday (it's shipped from the US so takes around a week) but it looks just the job, going to get it cut tomorrow at the local locksmith I hope - I assume they can do it and I won't have to take it to a dealership or anything silly like that?

You will need a colour code on the end of that part number thats why they can't find it:)

right - i have followed all the instruction on this thread and have a flipping key that starts and unlocks manually. for some reason i cannot get to code the remote locking. i have tried the instructions various times and ways but no luck. i have the 433 h flip key and the original key is also 433h - any ideas?

Managed to sort the key out, but also damaged the badge in the process.

Cheers

fwiw the entire thing cost me £120 and a quite a lot of hassle, next time I think I'd just go straight to the dealer and get a regular key for £90.

£120 bloody hell thts steep
Wen i got mine it cost me about £50 for everything thts for the key, blade cutting and FR badge for the back
you can get the stickers of ebay
i think the ebayer is something golfturbo or something

That's awesome, cheers guys - will take a quick look on Ebay but if I'm unsure I think I'll just go with the dealer, very handy to have the part number too.

Yeah it was pretty steep... £32 for the key, £30 to have it cut, £20 for an immobiliser chip (the one that came with my key was locked it seems) and £40 to program the chip.

Thanks again

Yes remove the badge and undo the small screw. The gently prise apart the key. Watch the spring mechanism in the metal part. Try and hold it while you take the two halves apart.

Have it so you take the top part of the key (where the button pokes through) and hold the mechanism to the other part with you thumb.

Just a little more inside info about keys. If you quote a VW dealer part number 1J0 837 246F INB these are the flip part of the keys that come with a transponder. They might have some of these already cut to customers cars that never turned up for them and are written off at stock takes. All you need to do is haggle a good price for these as they will be desperate to get rid of them. And if you buy a remote part number 1J0 959 753CT they may even throw one in for you.

Then all you need to do is get a blade cut (ebay seller auto-dude for the blank) put you transponder in out of you spare key and code the remote.

I have just finished my third key now using bits sourced from our sister VW branch.
