Yep thats correct mate... Cutting should be a further £5

You recode in 2 phases - Alarm + Immobiliser. The Alarm is easy. IIRC you just put the new key in the ignition and then lock the doors with a different key.

The immobiliser will either be a dealer job or you have 2 options: Get your immobiliser code from VAG COM and get the dealer to provide your SKC. With this you can code it though VAG COM (although this method didnt work with mine)

Alternatively (much more easily) open up one of your current keys and get the immobiliser crystal out of it (looks like a small glass tube not connected to anything) Open up the front part of the flip key (or drll a 3mm hole like i did cos i couldnt get the bloody thing open) and pop the crystal in there.

Jobs a good en :D

Having looked into this before I have saw 3 different flip type VW keys for sale, 433mhz, 433.92mhz and 434mhz. My key also says 433mhz - this is all very confusing!

Does the immobiliser crystal just sit in the key or does it need soldered in or anything?

ivew seen more there are 3 and 2 button ones with virtually the same part no apart from the last 2 letters nearly bid on the wrong one! im going to try and win the key with the part no. at the top of the page and let peole know if it works! fed up of stabbing myself in the leg!

My mkiv Golf has a 434mhz key, as my key was getting rough looking i ordered a band new one from china ( www.vagproduct.com) for 32 euro delivered. It was a 433mhz key and will not work on a car with 434mhz but the immo works ok, well it didnt for me. I just swapped the board inside.

well lok like i have a nearly new vw key that is tamper proof meaning i cant remove the immobiliser chip and will need all 3 keys recoding along with ecu by the dealer as new regulations have come in not allowing just one key to be coded on its own!
