I’ve picked up a pair of front foglights and matching headlight switch to upgrade our 2001 Ibiza ‘S’ which is only fitted with Rear Foglights as standard.
They came from a similar age car fitted with them from the factory so should be compatible.
The switch is the same style as the one in the car, it just has the provision to pull out twice to activate the Front Foglights as well as the rear ones already fitted.
I checked already, and unfortunately the car isn’t pre-fitted with the redundant wiring, but am comfortable with working out how to wire them in without.
I don’t really want to add another independent circuit and switch for them.
My first thought was to stick with the existing switch and just tap into the feed for the rear foglights to activate a relay for the fronts.
The downside of this is that you can’t turn the front’s on without the backs.
The benefits are that it looks standard, and the existing idiot light on the dash could cover both.
However I’m not sure of the MOT implications of having both come on at the same time, and having one idiot light, anyone know?
From what I can find via google, it looks like cars fitted with front and rear foglights may only have one idiot light anyway, can anyone confirm this please?
It would of course be nice to add the correct switch and add the wiring as needed to run the front foglights.
This I can do if I get a pin-out diagram of the headlight switch which appear to be available online.
My first thought was to double check the new switch was compatible with all the other functions of the headlights, so I plugged it in.
Unfortunately the headlights now come on immediately the switch is plugged in, even with the ignition off, although the rear foglight part works as expected.
Question is, am I missing something?
I don’t see why the new switch isn’t compatible with the old wiring for all the other functions, anyone any experience of this?
I suppose the switch I’ve brought could be knackered!
Thanks
Nasher.
