FR TDI Insurance for 21yr old?

Fair play 18ME........you are the one that knows him well enough to make the decision. Just wanted to play Devil's advocate really and put another opinion across.

I live in a town where there are lots of oyung neds that tear around in cars their parents buy them, before wrapping them round lamposts, trees, through garden walls etc. One recently T-boned a bloke pulling out of the end of my road. He admitted at the scene he was doing "at least" 40mph in a 30 and his girlfriend who wasn't wearing a seatbelt smashed her head into the windscreen. Young people hate being tarred with the 'irresponsible driver' brush, but GENERALLY, they do drive like complete tools to impress girls, their mates, whoever and don't have the road sense to avoid accidents.

Out of interest, why are you looking to get him the TDi and not the petrol? Is the IG higher on the petrol? I'm asking as the TDI is more to buy in the first place and unless he's putting the miles in, he won't get the benefits of having a clattery oil burner.....
And the petrol is faster, I think.

I'm 28 with 10 years no claims, never had an accident or points and never had a car bought for me. I'm paying £182 with Hefalump.

I'm with Keefy on this one though. Why not spend the extra cash on an advanced or pass plus driving course. It'll do him the world of good!

He is definately not one of these chavs that drives like a lunatic everywhere, hence the reason why I took him on a track day to start with. He doesn't need or want to drive everywhere on the road at 100mph. On his 18th birthday I took him to Prestwold Hall where he drove a Diablo, Viper, Noble etc on the track, and then drove my AmD modified 400bhp S4 on the road that I had at the time, that way when you get back into your own car theres just no point or any real need to go hair arsing on the road. He doesn't drive like a tit or even want to chav a car up with silly aftermarket kits etc, he's just not like that.

He's had 7 cars not because he's smashed them all up, only 2 were totalled and only 1 his fault. That does not make him a bad driver.

Most car enthusiats love quick cars, but does not make them all drive daft. I had one small incident when I was 17 but for the last 24 years my licence and insurance has been totally clean.

All I asked about was insurance issues, not a debate about his driving.
I want to help him out but not buy him a car just like that either. Theres a 54 plate FR going through the auction on Friday and if I can get it a reasonable price and get as much for his current car then the difference won't be too much. This is mine and his mums way of helping him through college and uni, but he still has to work everyday that he's not at college and through all the holidays, so its not just handed to him on a plate.

The FR tdi is group 8 whereas the petrol is group 12, but funilly enough the Cupra in both are group 15.

How many of the 7 cars has he paid for/insured himself ?

My mum and dad never bought me a car or paid for any insurance

IMO 130 bhp 3 door hatchback cars cost 1k+ for young lads to insure for a very good reason..............

Back on topic, I'm 37 and my FR petrol cost me just under £200 to insure fully comp this year

I can insure a goup 9 leon 2.0TDI for 1500 and thats living in one of the worst possible london postcodes at 19 with 1 yrs ncb and 1 non fault claim so I cannot see why not.

Isnt he a bit old for you to be doing all his leg work for him though lol

A FR will help him get through uni?
