Right, this might sound stupid but I'll go for it anyhoo! I recently bought a Ibiza FR TDI from Belmont motors. The car is a 07 plate with 38k on the clock. On collecting the car I was happy with it and they gave it an oil change out of curtosy. I then noticed that at the 4 year/40k service the pollen filter, break fluid, sump plug, fuel filter and timin belt and water pump should be changed. I thought fair enough, they sold me this car at 38k and 3 months short of 4 years old. So I went ahead and got a qoute from Seat at Earlston and they gave me a written qoute for 760 pounds including vat. My reaction.........not best pleased! So out of chance, I phoned Belmont motors and told them about the qoute and that I thought that it was unacceptable that after only 3 months of owning the car I would have to fork out that sort of money. To my total surprise, the sales manager honoured the blame and has offered to do all the remaining work including the timing belt, using genuine Seat parts for free :-o

So my question is, Belmont motors is a bit like an Arnold Clark, they seem to specialise in KIA, vauxhall and Suzuki. Not VAG! Where as if I take it to Seat, I'm 700 quid out of pocket but I'll know it's all done properly. I've already asked them if they could pay for me to take it to seat and they said........No! So it's Belmont Motors and and 700 better off with the possibility of it not being done correctly or go to Seat and be 700 out of pocket. What would other folk do?

eh, get it done at Belmont, surely can't be that hard for a time served mechanic to change the cambelt and do a service on any car. Fair play to Belmont for offering to pay for it though, not many garages would have done this.

That's what I was thinking mate, they can't be that bad and fair play to them. I reckon im going to take them up on their offer unless I hear a total horror story about them. Is this post in the wrong section? I didn't mean to post it in here.

Make the most of their generosity while it lasts ;)

Like rf860 said, they should be more than capable, it's hardly rocket science. I changed my timing belt and water pump without any hassle and i'm not a trained mechanic. You'll be fine.

SEAT or KIA dealer - It'll probably be some spotty 16 year old apprentice who'll do it anyway.

Keep your £700 and take it to the Garage you bought it from. Nice to see they did something like that. The garage I bought mine from offered to do the timing belt for cost price (no labour) when I bought my Ibiza which I was quite happy about, cos I had already knocked a lot of money off the car anyway!

Take the dealers offer, not heard anyone doing this before, make sure they stamp and write about cambelt change in your log book.

bought my car 1 month ago, private sale, had to spend £400 on service on cambelt change, but i got it quite cheap so i dont mind ;)

Cheers guys, I took them up on their offer and it's all done now and they did stamp the log book which is nice. Although I did drive about 30 seconds out of the garage and "Bang!" the car came to a juddering halt. Knew straight away that it was a boost hose had popped off but did give me a fright, thought my engine was knackered for a minute! Got the car back to the garage, 5 minutes on the ramps and it was fixed. All good now and 700 quid better off haha!
