front top mounts prob?

ok moved thread as obviously most people are only interested in own versions

swapped wheels over last week, not driven until yesterday.
turning lock to lock got loud knocking noise as though wheels were loose.
turns out top mounts moving around, i know that they move normally but will they settle back again or do they need replacing?
no probs before, so assume that if worn, they don't settle right?

when i lowered the cupra, i got some knocking and turned out a nut wasnt on extremely tightly on the strut top, so i would check that first, they would make a more squeeking noise iirc if they were loose.

This could point to a knocking my ibizas got.

Top mounts do move quite alot, its normal i think.

no first thing i checked, had it before on an isuzu!
that's what it sounds like though.
might take it for a thrash tomorrow see if i can beat it out!
seems strange its only appeared after taking weight off suspension?

been advised that the front mcpherson strut is loose on my ibiza, is this the same thing cos i get a sqeaking from it sometimes.

thought about that today too, just that even with no weight on spring shouldn't move as its still under stress?

normally anti roll bar bushes, experience tells me.

Just changed mine, still got my problem but its alot better. Feel every bump in the road now though. Old ones must have been shagged, looked original (96 stamped on them).

Anti role bar bush..... got an idea this could be one of my contributing problems.

Just standard mate, dont think they do poly top mounts

Im going to book her in the garage as soon as im less busy at work. If any bush has gone i think it mite be poly time.

found out problem today whilst in for MOT.. broken d/s front spring, broken away at bottom near cup

Yep it is normal. With these cars you get more allowance in the MOT for the top mounts. The same as the golfs and polo's.

ive got a nock from my n/s front i thought it was a loose nut on suspension but i have been told its a wishbone bush ? it passed the mot like it so cant be to bad
