Oi The Good ol' Robert Nesta Marley said ONE LOVE!

Us 1.2's need to stick together after all...if only two of us combine our engines we'd have more power than a cupra :D

think of it a twin engined 1.2 = 2.4 24v 6cyl :D

With 130ish bhp! Err yeah still less power than a cupra and more wieght i bet :p Think i need so save up LOTS of pennies get me one of those sciroccos.

As for mpg i'm still at my magical 37.5 town or motorway. If i tried to keep revs below 3k and below 2.5k for anything less than 5th gear. i know i can do 40+ but when some shifts at work can last up to 14 hours you really do just want to get home.

id have to go with guiness on this.

Go to the darkside, TDI is the way forwald, after havin the 1.2 all the differences in the tdi are so noticable.

Driving to London and back this weekend got 48mpg out of a tank! :p
However was driving like an old person all the way (chillin ;))
Normally average about 38ish as i want to actually get places.

Slow and low is the way, if you want good mpg!

tbh, i drove a 1.2 SXi for 2 1/2 years and over 30k+ averaged 42mpg.

that was a mix of 60% driving sensibly
20% stop start in traffic
20% ragging the hell just to stay up with a 1.4 :(

traded for a 1.9tdi 130 FR, and obviously the %mix changed, as i played a bit more, but the fuel consumption only went down a little bit to average about 48mpg.

then grew up and bought an audi!!!
i would recommend diesel anytime, means playtime and mpg in the same sentence:)

if i drove sensibly (like i did to brighton and back last week)
60+mpg and 865 miles to a tank!!!! (ok, i have a 70 litre tank in the A4)

Stu

in the grand scheme of things we 1.2 owners don't have it too bad for petrol cars i dont suppose fuel economy wise, hey could always be worse, if we had 1.8 T's we'd all be moaning about that too, granted we would get to places a lot quicker lol, but i don't think we do too badly fuelwise

Are all the tanks the same size on the Mk 4 Ibizas or do the 1.8 T's have a bigger tank, because i cant imagine you would get very far in one with the same size tank as a 1.2!

I would expect your car to have a very sooted-up catalyst, needing a long fast trip on motorways to fry it good & proper. Use DENSO Iridium-tipped plugs to help it burn clean ( £28 for a set of 3, off the net ).

Perhaps this very low mileage car has never been treated to a strip & clean of the brakes, resulting in a bit of rolling resistance.
Every year, at the annual service I request a proper strip and clean, drums off, dust removed ( air-line ), drum inner surface rubbed with emery-cloth, also the shoe surfaces; cylinder topped up with lithium grease: reassembled; hand-brake checked and adjusted. Front brakes similarly treated to pad removal, de-rust discs and edges of pad backing-plates, and the bearing surfaces the pads slide along. Re-fit the pads with application of copper-base grease at their edges and all sliding surfaces, including caliper-to-frame.
I have found this to be essential to combat the dreaded road-salt, after-all the front brake calipers and frames are usually made of aluminium, which gets very corroded by common salt, and the back brakes suffer from under-use.
This type of attention is just as important as your air pressure, in ensuring low rolling-resistance.
