Fuel consumption

I take a picture of mileage, top up to full (sometimes to 2nd click, depends on the car), write down mileage and amount of fuel. Next time the same procedure and I have number of miles driven and amount of fuel used.

I use German website for storing fueling records, one in my signature. You can export them to Excel if you want, to keep data locally. I think, there's also website called Fuelly, but I never used it. In past, I had Excel sheet for that. I still use the same Excel sheet for writing down all costs (insurance, service, finance, cash purchase/disposal, etc). When I dipose of the car, I calculate cost per mile, per month, year, etc.

I don't agree with it, computer seems to be more optimistic by 1-2mpg. Last few tanks in Formentor:

tank - computer read:
31mpg - 32.8mpg
37.6 - 38.5
38.3 - 39.1
35.9 - 37.3
34.4 - 34.1
31.1 - 31.5

Also, computer can't calculate how much you topped up. Computer will show mpg from last fuelling, regardless if tank is full or half.
Who gives a toss, I didn't buy it for fuel efficiency

Want to contribute my own experience with fuel economy also - I was getting only 9.5l/100km (30 UK MPG) when driving on B roads (100km/h limit) and was not very happy with it. This was using 95 E10.

After changing to 98 octane, I'm at about 8.6l/100km (33 UK MPG) driving the same routes.

Going to try 102 octane next for interest's sake.

First real long distance drive I’ve done in the car since picking it up. Was just in comfort mode, wasn’t really thinking about eco driving so was pretty impressed with the mpg. Car was also really comfy, didn’t feel like I’d been driving for nearly 3 hours

That's more like what I'm getting.

If I have a really slow and relaxed run because of traffic etc. I might manage 33... But very rare.

Sounds about right for a new, tight engine on short urban trips. The 310 is not an economical engine, it’s a sports engine. I get anywhere between 20mpg (local short trips of 2-3 miles) to 28mpg ( motorway 70-80 over 30+ miles). Best is around 33 on the trip home from the dealer in York to Aylesbury, 70mph with 20 miles of 50mph on the M1.

Mpg is pretty poor to begin with I've got around 4.6k miles on the clock now, short urban runs are a killer for fuel but a 30 mile round trip Is always well Into the 30's for me in individual eco mode with everything set as eco as possible
