1.2 12v avg 25mpg

ok serviced today and fuel filter changed and still no sign of better fuel econmy, thts how bad it is, i can tell from the past 5 hours since service, so any help much appreciated, vag com bringing up no faults but been told it could be overfueling injectors or coolent temp sensor. i thought these would have showed up on vagcom but not on mine, any way of checking on vagcom how much fuel the injectors r spaying or check the temp sensor is reading the same as the display dial?

my fuel economy over the past months.

There is a few things that might help, changing coolant sensor being one of them, engine temp sensor, has yours got a mad sensor? Cud always check brakes aren't rubbing and nothing causing friction or anything

wud a getting it rolling roaded help? A chat with a guy in some sort of tuning garage will know loads more than a stealer

have you cleaned your throttle body out? the injectors should be ok considering your milage. i changed them thinking it was that on my 1.2 and it made no difference, as i said before i changed alot, now it seems to be fine, with 70 miles to a tenner! you dont have a leak do you? check your fuel lines from the engine all the way down underneath the car and to the tank, check them all and then your fuel filter too. my fuel line on my cupra had a hair pin crack and gradually got worse, where i got 70 miles to half a tank!!!! was raging. sorted now :) let us know how u get on, u comming into glasgow anytime soon?

Your MPG is mad! :-o

I'm getting 270 miles until the light.

Normally drive 30 miles with the light on.

I've been using standard unleaded from my local Shell station.

£1.089 a litre in my area.

Also on the subject of injectors... I used to have a Hyundai Accent and it actually had two wrong injectors on it for some reason. I don't have the pictures to hand at the moment but I only realised after I took the spark plugs out and two of them had a more of a build up of crap on them than the other two, (they where darker). Then once I found the injectorr under all the plastics stuff I found that 2 of them where a different colour to the other two, once I changed them it was like a different car to drive. I'll have a look for the photos once I find the external HDD that they are on...
How did your spark plugs look?

how do you come to figure of 25mpg average? i make it 29.48 over that period of more than 1000 miles..

from your spreadsheet you have anywhere from 25 to 37mpg.. id say over them all the average is above 30.

whats your typical journey? how far? how fast? traffic? do you drive it hard? - be honest... how many revs do you typically use? what is the gear you usually find yourself in?

where you got 25 mpg then 37mpg is there a difference is the journey types?

one way to save some pennies would be to put more fuel in, seems you are popping in and out of stations alot!

How long does it take to get up to 90degrees on temperature gauge? thermostat may not closing fully if its take an age to get to temp. coolant sensor can be faulty, although probably a little over done on scn..

I think that you should have left the coolant sensor at the scrappies - and buy a new one and seal and clip as these things are known to cause lots of problems. VAG COM will never fault these sensors until they are looking like they are "out of range" - and that would bring the fault light on - or at least log a fault. Shouldn't name the scrappy either unless you plan on never going back - a lot of them tend to be a bit tough - especially across at your neck of the woods!!

I always tend to do fuel checks over a couple of tanks worth at least - not just throwing some fuel in today and again a few miles later - it will always work out better that way, and remember that very cold weather really does make a lot of differance to MPG - I'd reckon "up here" we will always average at least 10>15% worse fuel economy than 300 miles further South - both in high Summer and Winter - I move about a bit now and again and have always found that to be the case, and I'm comparing as near as possible "like for like" driving - and not just using a long motorway run to boost my figures.

Now... found the photos, of the four injectors two of them where wrong for that car, the blue one in of each photos was the wrong type of injector and it was over fueling the cylinders, unfortunely I don't have an image of the spark plugs but it was really obvious which cylinders they where from.
