Last night the wife smelt petrol - which I totally ignored until we got home to find what appears to be the fule filter dripping a not inconsiderable amount of petrol over the drive (while the engine is running). I had a push about and managed to click something and it stopped

What to do? Is this a common fault? do I need to replaced something? I am told it isn't covered under warranty.

That is strange, but I do think that the fuel lines at the filter are "click-on" so maybe you have fixed it for the time being - but your question to the dealer must be "why did it release in the first place?" If it had not been fitted correctly at the factory then I'd have thought that it would have leaked from day one - strange as it will still have the original filter fitted.

I know that the filter is a service part - ie it gets replaced at some high mileage, but your car is still covered by the new car warranty and the failure could be the pipe coupling and not the filter. You should talk to the dealer principle and/or the service manager to let them explain exactly their reasoning is for this way of thinking - and advise them that your next step will be to talk to SEAT UK customer care, and if that is not working your next call should be to your motoring organisation (RAC or AA ?) as this is a safety issue. You should not be getting fobbed off when this sort of thing happens.

I probably did the wrong thing but the car was due a 2 year service least week so I just took it to a local garage for that and they fitted a new filter. It would probably have cost me more in petrol and hassle taking it 24 miles to the dealer. It is now fixed and working fine, managed 50MPG on a long run to test it for the wife yesterday.

Thanks RUm4mo for the assistance anyway, I'm totally fed up with the dealer on another problem with my Leon so it was probably not the best time for this to happen.
