i put V-power in as a religion,handy as shell is .5 of a mile away from me, used to use optimax so im quiet happy shell have brought out V-power with is 1 ron higher and 3p cheaper, lovin that

all these fuels have been out in europe for ages, were just the last to get it as always,

i average about 30mpg and get about 250/300miles out of a tank sometimes driving hard and sometimes driving like a nun, i have seen it drop right down to 3mph's while abusing the loud pedal though

my car feels different with different fuel but not streight away, it takes a few tanks to notice it

have also heard very good reports on tesco's fuel also, iwoud use that but i have never needed to living so close to shell

My car is so different to drive with Optimax / V Power. I'm not sure wot map it's got but kinda sure it's mapped to run 98 ron. I'm running normal unleaded atm, put it in accidentally, not had the car long and used to putting in the sh*t stuff in my old astra!!!

Can't wait to waste this tank, mite take it for a rag tonight!!!!!

V POWER is definately worth getting IMO. My car feels like it's got so much more torque.

feckin hell, race fuel i think is only 105ron

Its not been at any BP stations in my area, I think its being trialled at "selected" stations. It was being discussed on SCN a while back in another section.

I remember someone saying it was over £2 a litre!!!! £2.40ISH if I remeber rightly!!!

Having run tesco 99 for months, vpower hasnt made a blind bit of difference after running through a few tanks.

Vpower and optimax are the same, and it looks like the marketing monkeys at shell did theyre job perfectly. I bet sales have rocketed because people think its something new and special.

V power is 98p a litre by me, compared to Optimax which used to be 104p litre

Prices drops are simply due to the likes of tesco trying to start a price war with mega low prices. Tesco are starting to roll out 99 to more of it stores. The Cardiff area has gone from 2 stores having it too most having it.

The optimax name change is a simple branding exercise to bring the uk into line with rest of europe.

Probably nothing significant. Optimax was always rumored to be a high 98 ron petrol anyway.

If your going to switch from **** petrol to something like vpower, then you obviously will notice quite a difference.

Its a placebo effect casued by good marketing strategy. Everyones talking about it, the prices have dropped and shell is making money, happy days for them.

i personally think that tesco 99 and v-power are pretty much a step ahead of the others, either one will do for me

their is a difference between optimax and v-power i have found though, although that might be down to 1 ron i think it is sightly noticable, just little things like better response, all the differences are tiny, but they add up, try running 98ron for a few tanks then go to 99 ron, their is a difference, its also cleaner etc .. to keep the tree huggers happy, so in theory it should be cleaner for your engine also

i must admit, tesco is cheaper than shell, and if you shop their its defo worth it.
its good fuel, simple as

all this talk of fuel economy is persumably from the trip computer... ?

Because I found it to be utter rubbish, if you check it by actually working it out its no where near e.g I saw 38mpg average over 100 miles, actually work it out and its more like 32mpg.... with around a 15% error I wouldn't take the trip computer figures as gospel, especially if you're running it chipped with 4bar FPR etc.

You'd need to check with VAGCOM that your timing isn't showing too high CF's, as if you're map is specifically for higher octane fuel it'll be running more timing

Yeah of course! If your car is remapped to work around the fuel you put in and you run it on different fuel then it wont run right

This is one of the first 'fuel' threads i've read where most people agree good fuel = better performance. I was looking at a Club GTi thread where cupra owners were saying tey couldn't tell any significant difference between super market and vpower. I know when i have been using optimax in the cupra, and than have to put in some 95 ron the car is very obviously slower. Putting in optimax after crap fuel is like getting the 'cold weather effect' on those nice crisp mornings.

Also, i have notced the same on the VRS - BP standard derv is crap, shell standard derv (they only do one) is fantastic. Despite what most people maintain, there is a massive difference in performance between the two fuels. Anyone know how derv is measured for refinement? i seem to remember somthing about centanes? can anyone prove my theory about shell diesel?
