I've fitted mine using the plates with nuts welded on, but I'd be happy to fit it using separate nuts and washers.

The issues with a separate nut and washer would be that it is much more fiddly to fit on the bonnet hole. You wouldnt want to drop them inside the bonnet edge.

Another issue would be getting appropriate size washers that are strong enough and the right diameter. The surface for the washer to go on isn't particularly big so the washer couldn't be too wide or you won't get much contact on the bonnet or bay.

I dropped the plates not playing attention, took me a good 20 minutes to get them out

If Dan doesn't get round to posting up some pictures of the brackets himself later on, I'll post some over the weekend.

Below are some pictures of the actual plates with 2 of them having an M8 nut tack welded to them as supplied by Nik. The actual dimensions are 45mm x 20mm x 2mm thick with a 8mm hole in the centre. Nik has also applied a thin layer of black paint onto them some of which has already started to come off mine as can be seen so I would recommend applying a thicker coat of hammerite or similar before fitting to prevent corrosion setting in and them ending up looking an eyesore.

Sorry for those that have emailed me and not had a reply. I've been really busy with personal things.
I should be able to sort some plates out for next week if people are still interested.

I've ordered everything required to do the gas strut mod, including 2 different sets of brackets. I'm going to do it a slightly different way which should be stronger on the top fitting on the bonnet.

Let us know what you do (with pictures) because my strut isn't fitted yet so if I think yours is a better and/or more secure setup then I might do it your way instead.

Why more secure? Mine is secure enough that when the strut opens the bonnet, the whole bonnet flexes. It's plenty secure enough

The best way to do it would be to order the bits from the Mk5 Golf, and weld the backed on to the car, far too much hassle and cost though

I just don't like how the brackets are over a big open hole with only a small amount of metal either side. I had a look at the bonnet and see a simple way of making it stronger, that's all.

If plates are bigger then You cant put them in bonnet holes.
I made plates (brackets) myself and glued nut with Superglue, cause nut is needed to stay in position till its in bonnet hole and a bit on screw. When its on, You can manipulate bracket
