Hello, so I just feel my gear changes are so laboured. I have a crunch between 1&2 not bad but noticeable then the rest of the gears seem very mechanical and not smooth. I don’t know where to start

Could be a few things

1. Your linkage likely just need resetting, pretty easy i did mine a few weeks ago and its MUCH smoother

2. Shifter slop aka bushings inside shifter in the cabin

3. Gearbox needs attention, oil or something

edit: Mine has a short shifter but was really notchy and sometimes if shifting fast i'd miss gears, resetting the linkage fixed it for me 98%
 
Bangin mate. I had wanted to change the gear oil but read nightmares about what type to use etc

Know anywhere you can pick the bushes up. I had a look on eBay there was one set for over 40£

How is it when selecting reverse?
Has it got a quick shift kit fitted?
 
No it’s stock and seems to be fine on reverse

Its not the clutch then.
Fingers crossed its just linkage setup.

Yeah I’ll look tomorrow. I’ve also noticed when in first or 3rd (only gears I’ve paid attention) if I prod at tw throttle I can feel the knob move back and forth!? Someone said possible engine mounts?

not a clue, tbh i'd look at the bushes first as mine looked pretty good still. But when i broke the linkage grabber thing i could see wear which would lead to the linkage slowly coming out of alignment over time.

For the love of god dont drop the bit inside the gearbox , i bought a pack of 5mm nails and bent the top like he did in the video(stops it from falling through). it was a snug fit but the more snug it is, the more accurate the adjustment.

Make sure you do it in this order:

Unlock the adjuster rings on the gearbox > then lock the gearbox selector out > then lock the shifter knob out.

then you just have to snap the rings back in place, its good to pull a little slack out of it here. and unlock the selector and shifter knob.

This 100%. The 'thunk' on pull was cured by polybushing the dogbone.

but if you're talking about that tiny gearknob movement when you come on n off pedal, i get that too.

He doesnt do it in the video, but he uses a nail with a bend in the top to clear the gaitor and prevent it falling through, as the hole goes straight through, so if you used a 4mm drill bit it'd just fall straight through into somewhere under the shifter assembly lol.

It should be.
2 bolts into the bottom of the gearbox and 2 into the subframe.
Some people have issues with the 2 in the subframe but mine came out without any problems.
