Gearbox issues..

Hi guys.. as you can see i'm new to this forum!

Anyway... been having alot of issue with my ibiza, the gear box mainly.

Its a 1.4 8v, not sure what gearbox thou..

I find that it has sh1t loads of play.. and having problems getting it to go into first..

Any ideas what it could be..??

I would check the linkage first. Get a friend to go through the gears while you watch the linkage in the engine bay, you might spot something wrong/where to adjust.

if it's cable change i dont know what it could be

but if it's rod change, then most likely need the linkages looked at, mine used to do it, then i lost all the gears , had to drive home in 3rd, involving pulling off at lights

I think its cable, but aint sure having a look in a moment...

had a look, seems to be the linkage has worn a bit, or the clutch
I know which one i would prefer!!

Linkage is rod on the 1.4 and easy fix

clutch is about 140 installed so not tragic.

hi, i find that sometimes my gear stick loses its spring and therefore find it hard to get into gear. i only have this problem once the car has got hot, and the gear stick comes really stiff hence losing that spring feel. any idea's what causing this? is it the end of my gear box?
