Morning all.

How hard is it to get the box out ? Do I have to drop the sub gram or will it just come out of the whole ? Cheers lee

if you have the tools its easy

Whereas i had it on two axle stands at the front, took the battery out, the std intercooler, remove the shafts (can be done with drivers still in the hub, but its easyer to just remove it) unbolting the drop links for the anti roll bar helps the wishbone come out the hub, the starter, the mount attached to it, and gearbox mounts, bowden cables etc, then took the box out.

lie under it and drop it out on to your chest, a friend to help from the top is recommended, but i have done it myself, both removal and fitting,

Yeah got all the tools. Might tackle the down pipe at the same time. They look alot less cramped from underneath than they do on top. Lol

I didn't have to loosen or remove the sub frame but I had to take the gearbox mounting off the sub frame to get the box out, it's pretty tight but just keep wiggling it!!!

Iirc you can unbolt the dp from the top,

for the gear box, No need to remove anything apart from the smic and starter n shafts, plenty room, just as its coming out rotate the box so the diff is higher and it will clear the flywheel obviously fitment is just reverse of removal, mind support the engine, as the front mount comes off same time as the starter

Got the box free and undone all the bolts. Can only get it an inch of the engine though ? Won't actually come of ?

That's the rotate the diff high thing I mentioned, you can leave both flanges on and all the oil in the box! So pretend your looking at the end of the box thru the passenger wheel arch, then go anti clockwise with the box, rasing where the diff is, then the flange clears the flywheel done it a few times now, works a treat

Ah. Well I dropped true flange of in the end. Gt it all back in and rear mount on then had to do a call out so I'll finisheh it tommorow. Cars on 79k on the original clutch. Pretty good going. About an inch of free play in the flywheel though so was about to fail I think.

Gunna do the down pipe tommorow aswell. :).

my standard clutch had done 125,000 when I changed it and to be honest there was still quite abit of life left in it, I guess my driving style of hardly slipping the clutch paid off :)

Make sure the washer is in before refitting the flange,

well done, I think its an easy job, but then I had my box out n in in my old mk2 golf 9 times over 4 yrs lol n these are basically one of those at the front, plus have been working on cars for longer than I care to remember, makes me feel older than I am! Haha

How do you rate it?

Mine is due a new box soon, think its about to die, for a second time...

Just an update.

I cannot believe how much of a difference it's made to the drive of the car
My clutch wasnt slipping, just the was was very low, clutch pedle very heavy and juddering.

Now it's light , smooth, more feel. Less vibration. So much better. My flywheel had loads of play in it aswell.

To any one who hasn't done it. Well worth the 200. ( flywheel, clutch, cover plate, release bearing and slave cylinder. )

Ye the difference is massive!!, single mass makes the clutch action feel alot more modern, you will be thankful next time your in a traffic jam ;), have you got for a lighten flywheel??, I did and the pick up is alot better to, say your sat at 50mph and you put your foot down it just pulls alot quicker and crisper.

it's an amazing mod which is well worth the money if you can fit it yourself :)
