Genuinely amazed at how fuel efficient my Leon actually is!

I'm absolutely gobsmacked after yesterday's run from Preston to just south of Birmingham - it's the first real long distance run I've done in this Leon, and cannot believe it did the 211 miles on just over 13 litres of fuel. £18.00 from full tank to full tank, averaging 73.7mpg. That was with the cruise set at 70mph on the motorway, properly keeping up with traffic elsewhere, and not driving like Miss Daisy. And they talk about dirty, inefficient diesels and how we should be going electric.....
71.0 mpg going south, 76.4mpg on the return - I really can't complain at that at all

Nice, i've had 70+ a couple times out of my 184 - but that was being 'careful' at more like 60mph on some long section of roadworks.

Funny enough I don't find my 1.6 tdi great on fuel, not compared to 70mpg anyway. I've done a couple of motorway runs, cruise control set to 120kph (75mph) and generally get from 50-55 mpg. I also fuel track and find the car is optimistic on fuel consumption by about 5-10%.

If I am very very careful I can get 70mpg, but only on roads where speed limit is 80kph...and it's painful slow granny driving

This 2.0TDI DSG is certainly better than my previous (remapped to 140hp) 1.6TDI manual, even around town

70mpg is pretty good. I only track our cars over a tank so mixed driving. Highest I saw from the 1.6 TDi was just over 60mpg. The 2.0TDi averages about 5mpg less.

I would have expected your car to have better mpg.

On a long motorway drive at 75mph my 2018 Lron 1.4TSi (150) FR shows 52-54mpg.

I thought that was a bit low too - though in fairness my old Toledo 1.2TSI would be pushing very high 50s on a long run, not a great deal different to the previous Leon 1.6TDI, but nothing has touched what this 2.0TDI DSG is achieving

My 2.0tdi 184 is usually arround 55 over a tank.

Car is remapped to ~145hp, which might have a negative effect on fuel efficiency. Anybody going off the dash fuel efficiency, you should try measuring a few tanks of fuel to get your real fuel efficiency. Like I said, my car could say 60mpg on the dash, when in reality its more like 55mpg.

I use an app called fuelio to track it.

I have recorded mileage & amount of fuel added every time I buy petrol since I bought the car 32k miles ago.

Car shows long term average as 47.3mpg & by my calculation real figure is 45.7 . So car is 3.5% optimistic and my quoted 53mpg on a motorway trip would correct to just over 51mpg.

Getting 65-70mpg from the 184 now the weather is warm. Even the Cupra is up to 43-45mpg. My commute is nice, quiet and flowing.

Damn that is nice for the Cupra. The TDI is unreal haha

I had to convert it to km/liter

70mpg = 29,7km per liter
43mpg = 18,3km per liter

With my driving style and when I need the car, avg: 25mpg

When I drive to my parents (highway), then around 31mpg

@LeylandVCDS Bang for buck, the TDI is unbeatable with +70 mpg :giggle:

Yeah, unless you're working it out from actual usage you're guessing. I'd say it needs to be over quite a lot of tanks as it varies wildly. My car can return as high as 50mpg or drop to high 30s. Our other cars all vary more than 10mpg too so one tank may not be at all representative.

Totally agree, all my Octavias were around 7-8% optomistic. (before I recalibrated it with VCDS). But surprised this Leon is actually accurate - this run I first posted about was showing 73.9 mpg on the "since refuel" screen when I topped up, and working it out by litres actually going in to the miles actually done it calculated at 73.7
