Getting my oil pump replaced

Hi,

Had a service done on my 2001 Leon 1.8 20VT today.....had an oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and I put a pipercross panel air filter in......spark plugs I was told were still fine (had car 3 months) BUT I've been told oil pump is on the way out! Anyone know how much part is plus labour at an independent garage? I have noticed a knocking sound coming from somewhere above driver footwell....it comes and goes for say 30 seconds but since the service and oil change I hear it louder and more often....it doesn't seem to rise with revs. Is this the failing oil pump?

Joe

edit: I reckon I should book back with the garage asap to get this sorted but wanted to know a bit more. Will I have to buy another 5 litres of mobil 1 oil tho?!!?

Well i think the sound may be a belt or tensioner sounds like something being cranked round anyway. The car starts with a rough/diesel splutter sound and shuts down with a clatter. Idles between 720 and 760 with a kind of whine that changes pitch with the revs fluctuation. cars feels bad at low rev speeds. feels fine and pulls well at higher revs. Was thinking new timing belt and tensioners (with waterpump) if anyone has any ideas would love to hear them.
