hi folks,

my FR+ has a cd changer from factory in the glove box, however i just noticed the glove box doesnt actually close properly.(had the car 3 weeks now, still under warranty)

i dont think it is catching as when i slam it shut i can open it by just pulling down on the handle. also this means even when i lock it, it doesnt lock!! im sure the cd changer doesnt hit the door so am confused... the hook does look crap but should still hold... just dont think its reaching the catch

does anyone else have this problem? im off to seat on saturday for other things and i'll be adding this to the list!

thanks!

am only guessing but the carch on my glove box came loose, so tightened it up and the glove box would not stay shut so moved it forward and all was fine, sure they will sort it no probs...:D

right this has pissed me off!!
the dealer in briantree said it just needs tightening, so i thought i'd be able to do it at home... how wrong was i?

it looks like a design fault... a real crap attempt at a glove box lock!

if anyone has taken the screw and plate off you'll know it can only be fixed one way. i've taken it off and reinserted it and pulled it forward as much as possible. tightened it but it still does not reach the hook. also it just ends up coming off soon after :( the hook is a piss poor attempt also and i dont think it would hold well against a thug.

back to the dealer ...

My glovbox latch is the same - if you don't shut it right a bump in the load knocks it open. I have to shut the glove box and then give it a firm push to here it click over the latch. Just accepted that it was a bit of a tight fit and I hardly ever open it.

I'd never lock it cause some twat would only damage the dash attempting to open it - cause that would be the one time it actually worked properly.

i dont mind it not actually locking, its the fact the hook does not latch onto the catch at all meaning it falls like you said, on a bump

i just want it to catch :cry:

just a thought but if the catch can be taken off then fold a piece of paper up and place it on the latch before screwing it back in. Maybe it would help but but cant say i have really looked at the latch before but will have a look later

Actually thinking about it now isnt it a bar that sticks out that is the catch. Can you bend it down a little?

right taken some pictures. as you can see there is a slit in the glovebox for the latch to fit. i can place the latch in place and push into place, close the lid then pull away and the hook removes the latch... all good

but as soon as i screw the latch in place it pulls the latch back so it cannot reach anymore.
im hoping seat will cover this under the warranty

I must admit that the build quality on my LC is what I would consider average and the fact that it in the VAG family I was suprised. My 15 year old toyota I had before the LC had better build quality.

Hope the dealer is helpful when you go back.

You might not want to do this as it's under warranty but is there room in the top pic to redrill a small hole in front of the other one?. This would give a further range of movement. I wouldn't personally as it should be covered. However you might not be bothered booking it in etc..

thanks for the replies,

i've thought about drilling but it would not stop the screw from pulling it back, im still trying to get my silver mirror cover replaced or re painted under the warranty so dont mind going to a dealer... well if they can be arsed to help lol

thanks again!
